99 Tahoe Programmer for MPG??
Well i love my 69, but its time to get the wife a little bigger ride to go along with it. I'm looking at some used 99 tahoes for around 3k. I hear from buddies that they get around 18mpg.
Question: Has anyone ever used a programmer to get some better MPG? When i get one in the next month or so, i'm thinking a cold air intake and reprogram it. Maybe some dual exaust too. That should get the MPG up. But i've seen sooo many different brands and types on jegs and summit its hard to pick a programmer out of the dark. So i'm looking to see if anyone has used one, what kinda improvment you might of gotten and such. ttt

Re: 99 Tahoe Programmer for MPG??
If you do any kind of city or mixed driving I would only expect 14-15mpg max out of a Tahoe. Maybe 16 if it's a 2wd and you have a light foot. On the highway a 4x4 should have no problem getting 18mpg, and some people get 19-20 out of the 2wd's.
Just don't want you to be disappointed. 13-15 is pretty much the average for any full size V-8 SUV. My Z71 doesn't see the highway much at all, I seem to average 14mpg pretty consistently. It will hit 18+ but it has to be almost a 100% highway tank. I used to frequent GM-Trucks.com and there was a lot of satisfied people there with the waitforme tunes.

Re: 99 Tahoe Programmer for MPG??
My 99 Yukon is a 4X4 with 3:73 gears. It gets 12-14 in town and 17-18 HWY. It would probably do a little better than that if my right foot were a little lighter. I tried the K&N air intake, throttle body spacer, etc. No noticable improvement in MPG over stock. There's really not much you can do to improve mileage in a full size v8 powered SUV with the aerodynamics of a small barn.

Give them a call You can get the best mileage results from a custom tuned PCM over a programmer
