Finally my build thread is here! Lots of pics!
Alright guys,
I've finally gotten off my lazy butt long enough to take some pics of my build project. I started the tear down about 1 year ago, and progress has been slow due to money but I'm moving along! The truck was bought for $300 by my dad about 15+ years ago from some guy who had it sitting in a field, it had an i6 that was seized, but we spent the summer and got it running and he gave it to me that year when I got my license. yaay! A few years later I bought a stock 327 from a guy for $300, he told me it was out of a '64 vette. Eventually got rid of the 3 on the tree for a TH350 rebuilt w/ a B&M stage 2 shift kit. And rebuilt the 327 with 11.5 compression, Comp Cams Magnum 280 cam kit, bored .030 and heads rebuilt. The truck sat in a few garages for the last 8-9 years, with little driving, pretty neglected.. I sold it to a Friend for $2500, and about 2 months later, i couldn't handle it being gone so he let me buy it back Last Feb i began tearing it apart for a full rebuild.. Since then i've been slowly gather and installing parts. and let me say, Ebay has some bad ass deals on parts!! So here is what has been done thus far.. - Frame and rear axle housing sand blasted and powder coated 60% gloss black - Installed new Auburn posi diff and 4.11 gears, new axles in rear - Early Classic 6" drop spring in back and shock relocators - Early Classic trailing arms - Early Classic extreme drop crossmember - CPP modulor 2" drop spindles - CPP 13" drilled/slotted brake kit up front - Performance Online tubular upper/lower control arms - Early classic 2" drop springs in front - CPP power steering bracket - Rebuilt power steering gearbox - Motor painted motor with ceramic black and clear coated - Just installed new Edelbrock RPM Air Gap intake I got for xmas Probably a few other odds and ends on there as well.. check out the youtube video!! My truck and friends camaro doing some burnouts new years 2000. listen to how bad ass my motor sounds at 4:48 in the vid Ok, on with the pics!! Last edited by chillware; 01-10-2010 at 10:49 PM. |

Re: Finally my build thread is here! Lots of pics!
I just ordered a bunch of motor parts from ebay, got a killer deal on a new & complete March serpentine pulley set! Also picked up an aluminum water pump, chrome alternator, chrome p/s pump, Holley fuel pump and a harmonic balancer. Should be in sometime this week.. will take pics!
Thanks for the good words! I cant wait to get this baby on the road (in 5 years, lol!)

Nice to see another local Nor Cal guy on here, Welcome!
Your build so far is lookin nice. You are goin right down the same road with yours as what I want to do with mine. I am just lacking.....a shop, money and time. Small details I know but I just keep on keepin on. Keep up the great work and keep the pics coming!

I would really love to have a shop instead of the two car garage I have now where my roommate takes the other spot the majority of the time. I have all the body in storage right now, and thats costing $100/mo too.. I'm really struggling with how I'm gonna get the body painted.. I'd like to try and do it myself but I have no place to do it and the garage is barely an option. It's all fun tho, I love the project, keeps me busy and outta trouble!

Re: Finally my build thread is here! Lots of pics!
Ya I feel ya. I have the property to build a shop..just that time and money thing again. Just like you I want to do all the work myself and paint is a big road block, but I am thinking that I am goin to take on the body work myself and get it darn near close to paint then have a shop clean it up and paint it. But for now I am still in the chassis, suspension phase.

Tubular motor mounts and trans mount from POL, bolted in place now. I'm going to weld them in this weekend, after i make sure the motor still fits in them!

Beautiful work!!
I painted stuff before outside before. I did it in the morning before the bugs and wind picked up. Not only will you experience how to paint, it will give you experience color sanding and buffing.

Re: Finally my build thread is here! Lots of pics!
Why are you welding them in (factory mount 'towers' are removable)?. I used POL's & bolted them up to my notched c.member (after drilling a couple of holes).
