Gear Reduction Starters
I am trying to find prices on gear reduction starters for our trucks. I got a quote from the guy that fixed my alternators and I wanna see where it stands with the competition. He told me he had in stock, the gear reduction starters for my truck (86) and most our trucks (73-87) for $110 no core!!!! I seem to think I have seen them for sale before for like $230 or more. Is this a good price?
Oh, as far as my alternator problem I had. I fried one of the 2 he sold me trying to install it. Apparently I have a short somewhere and it sent 24v to the alternator and toasted the regulator, rectifier and coil. He gave me another and didnt charge me a dime! Now that is customer service!!!

that is a good price.I got a price on one a while back from a rebuilder that was about 160-170,expect to pay about 200 or more at a part store for a Delco reman. Plus, you'll probly pay at about 100 for the direct drive (Delco reman) anyway.More cranking power for the same price, sounds good to me.

Steve, is that starter for the diesel? If so, that's way cheap. But would it work with your 24 volt system?
