Anyone with LMC Choke Cable experience? Or any other stock replacement choke cable.
I need to get a choke cable for my 68 C10. It has a sbc and edelbrock carb with passenger side choke connection.
I really don't want to get a generic part store one because i'd like to use a stock knob as well. Does anyone have any experience with the LMC Choke cable. Was it too long, too short, cut to fit? I'm willing to buy from a board supporting vendor, but so far I can't find anyone offereing one except LMC. Thanks Jason Last edited by Test Pilot; 01-15-2010 at 05:34 PM. |

Re: Anyone with LMC Choke Cable experience?
You cut the cable to fit. Pull the inner wire out. Route the cable to the carb/ choke arm. Insert the wire, cut off excess about 2" longer than sheath. I use an "S" bend in the cable end. That way it's easy to pull off the carb when you pull it for rebuilds.
It fits well and matched other control knobs in the dash. But I had one come apart on me after 7 years or so almost daily use. I replaced it with another from LMC, since they're the only game in town. I would check out Classic Industries, Paddock Parts, Brothers and Golden State Pickup Parts. They might also carry the '67 -'72 choke cable and knob.

Re: Anyone with LMC Choke Cable experience?
Thanks
I ended up getting one from the parts store. I'm going to try to cut the knob off and epoxy or pin the oe knob on the aftermarket cable. My concern with the LMC piece is that it wouldn't be long enough. |

Re: Anyone with LMC Choke Cable experience?
They're plenty long. I've had to cut 18" -24" off. I have a V8 350 in my '71 Jimmy K/5 and an L6 292 in my '68 C/10 stepside. The L6 is longer, since it goes around the passenger side of the block then up and over to get to the manual choke arm on a 4 Bbl AFB [Edl 1404.] Also, if you epoxy the knob on, you won't be able to pull the instrument bezel off for servicing instruments and bulbs.

Re: Anyone with LMC Choke Cable experience?
I thought about the cluster bit, but actually if i disconnect the cable first it will all slide right out. It will take a few steps that will be a pita, but I don't find myself behind the cluster that often.(watch now all my gauges will fail one at a time) I'll have to be a little more creative than normal, but I can make that part work.
