what auto tranny came in the 87 suburban?
Sorry guys but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere. What auto tranny came in the 1987 2wd suburban? Is there an online resource I can use in the future for questions like this?
Thanks Last edited by CB24; 01-28-2010 at 03:31 PM. |

Re: what auto tranny came in the 87 suburban?
1/2 or 3/4 ton?
The vast majority of the 1/2 tons came with the 700r4 overdrive transmission, but the turbo 350 with the lockup converter was an option. The 3/4 ton suburbans would have had a turbo 400 behind a 454 or 350 engines , and could have had the 700r4 with the 350 engine. Get under it and look at the transmission pan. If it is completely square it is a 700r4, if it is square with one corner cut off at an angle it is a turbo 350, and if it is no where near square it is a turbo 400. Mike |

Quote:
If it's PRND21 and you have a 1/2 ton then you have a TH350 If it's PRND21 and you have a 3/4 ton then you probably have the TH400 Yours I bet has the TH350 as you say it only has a 305 in it which was the base level burb in 1987.

Re: what auto tranny came in the 87 suburban?
I had an '87 with the TBI 305 and 700r4. It was a stripper with vinyl, but it did have overdrive. They did some crazy stuff back then. I have a '87 SWB 4x4 stepside that is a Silverado. It came from the factory with power windows and manual locks. Only one I've ever seen that way. I know it's factory since I've known the truck since new.

Daggar, you made that too easy, hahaha.
Its a 700r4 which is cool because I bought the truck for the front suspension for my 69' c10 & the gas tank. Now I can use the tranny too after a rebuild. Thanks for the help guys. |

Could you get a 305 in a Sub? I thought the 350 was standard.

305 was available until 1987. In 1988 the 350 became standard equipment.
