Re: I'm in the ROCKWELL CLUB !!!
Ghetto, I planned on using some traction bars similar to the ones on the 71. Would think they could help prevent it????
Tallhoedude - Man do I ever have questions.......... It currently has crossover - want to change to at a minimum hydro assist but maybe full hydro? Is there a chaep orbital valve to use for full hydro or should I just tap my current steering box and run hydro assist? What type of cylinder? Will any from the tractor supply work? I have read multiple treads over on Pirate but never really get clear answers....... Is one rear pinion brake sufficient for mud holes? I have a bunch more but will just start with those......... Thanks guys

Re: I'm in the ROCKWELL CLUB !!!
fire away, ill help where i can.
first, have you been here?: http://chuckstrucks.iforumer.com/ind...m=chuckstrucks that is the mecca of rockwells!! forget about pirate4x4.com second, crossover will be more $ than full hydro, may require some custom parts or fab.and isnt needed for a mud truck i got my orbital from ebay, rebuilt for $200,everything else(column, fittings, hoses, ram,)are off the shelf at tractor supply.running a gm medium duty resivour with filter $20 from junkyard, and a used trans cooler, free. i did some research at chucks site to figure what size orbital to get then found one on ebay. i use the stock ps pump, but want a little more flow so im gonna mess with the shims and springs in the pump soon. im about 5 turns lock to lock, doesnt do too bad on the street, not like ive done it much ,but....it works, cheap. as far as pinion brakes, yes one is fine,i have 2,but lots of mud trucks run 1 on the rear. any more? let me know

Re: I'm in the ROCKWELL CLUB !!!
Do you have the part number for your orbital valve. I am thinking about running a 2''x10'' ram from teh tracto rsupply store like you mentioned.
Alos, I have Hydroboost brakes, will this be OK or not?? I started to tear into the truck today and it looks like I have a passenger side wheel bearing that is taosted, I can barely spin the wheel. I will be taking this apart real soon. Where is the cheapest place to buy gaskets and seal. I will probably just clean the bearings and reuse if possible. Thanks again for the help, love your build! Is there a link for wheel bearing replacment, I am still waiting on ChucksTrucks to confirm my registartion, it appears something might be wrong it has been a couple day. I Need to look into this. thanks again

Re: I'm in the ROCKWELL CLUB !!!
i was able to clean and reuse a lot of my brgs, after all,its just a mud truck,so what if theyre a little loose.
the TSC ram will work great. im tryn to find the exact #'s on my orbital for ya. hydroboost shouldnt be any issues, couple extra hoses maybe.

Re: I'm in the ROCKWELL CLUB !!!
Talked to a buddy and he said the same thing, as long as they are not totally shot just pack as much grease as possible and reuse them. My pass. side wheel is very hard to rotate so that might be shot ?? We will have to see. He also said he would just use RTV instead of spending the money on gaskets and he also said the use the bearing to remove the sela from the back side and the seal might even be able to be reused?
I do have to buy boot since there are none there currently. I hope tonight to get it running and movable the I can tackle the front end this weekend Is there a on-line place for detailed instructions on these things that can be downloaded so I dont have to get a manual. ( I am cheap !!!!!)

Re: I'm in the ROCKWELL CLUB !!!
I also heard that trying to mix and match valves with cylinders takes some investigation. I have found a couple valves on some various 4x4 places that are around $350 for the valve and spline adapter. Just trying to decide if I want to try and run hydro assist or just go full hydro.
Hydro assist would be pretty cheap if I tap my ps box, then all I have to buy is a cheap surplus ram and hoses. Full hydro I am debating on if I want to run a single action cylinder or a double action. I beleive I can piece toget the single action for about $200-$300 cheaper but in the long run it is all going to run about $1000 if I have to get a new ps pump, orbital, cylinder and so forth. Just cant decide, really dont want to spend the money on the hydro assist if in the long run decide to go to full hydro??? Any suggestions Chucktrucks site is still not allowing me to log on, trying to contact an admin. thanks
