Re: Vent window & Door glass?
Is the hardware for the vent windows sheet metal screws? When I bought the truck it didn't have any glass in the doors.

Re: Vent window & Door glass?
I believe they are sheet metal screws, I do not remember drilling out any rivets when I removed mine. I'm not home but I think there is one in the top and two on the sides. The lower bar in attached to the door panel with machine screws, clutch head if my memory is right.

Thanks ,Patrick, I got the vent assembly held in by the lower bolts only. I tried to set the window glass in but I couldn't come up with the right combination ???

Hi Knothead, I'm definitely no expert on these trucks but learning all the time thanks to the informative threads here, and just diving in and trying it. My truck is a '55 GMC 2nd. I had to put a new right side window in mine about 3 weeks ago but my memory ain't like it used to be. Shoulda took some pics. I had to leave the vent window assembly completely unbolted but still just stuck into the door. There is that bracket on the bottom of that vent window assembly that wont allow it to just pull out. I think I used a few strips of duct tape to hold it up a ways while I wiggled the window down into the regulator mount. It seems like it still was a real tight deal then after I got the 2 screws in the regulator mount started good but not tight, I believe I rolled the window down all the way and dropped the vent window assembly in and started the bolts in it. Then I rolled the window up and finished tightening the bolts and screws. Probably an inaccurate account of what I did but I hope it may help. Later---DAC

Re: Vent window & Door glass?
I just remembered that I took sequential photos of my door disassembly when I took it apart. When I get home I will see if I can find them and post a how to in reverse order. DAC triggered the memory that there is a specific sequence to get the window, vent assy and requlators out. Did you say you did not install the glass in the vent frame when you had the whole assy out? I have never replaced a vent glass but I think you need to have the glass in the frame before you put the whole assembly back in the door. I decided to go ventless and I quit worrying about the vents.

Re: Vent window & Door glass?
Thanks again guys, You are correct in the description of how you installed yours. When I got home from work yesterday I unbolted the vent assembly and moved it forward enough to allow the window glass to be installed.
