Side Saddle tanks on 71 lwb
I am looking to relocate my in cab tank for more space behind the seat, but I don't want to use a behind the axle tank and lose my spare tire. Does anyone know if the 73-81 or 82-86 side saddle tanks will fit on a 71 lwb?
I'm not worried about the side impacts since I don't plan on mounting model rocket engines on my fuel tank like Dateline did. |

Re: Side Saddle tanks on 71 lwb
Unless the later year models fit without too difficult of a mod, I would look hard for the 67-72 aftermarket saddle tanks. LOTS of people have trucks with them and thanks to the NBC fabricated controversy, lots of people are afraid of them. Folks usually give them away.
Note they usually don't come with a float to tell you the level in them. I have one saddle on my truck and used a gauge/float kit from JC Whitney. If you find a set-up make sure you grab the 3-way valve that is usually mounted to the left of the driver on the floor.

I will take some measurements of the tanks on my 78 and see if they can be made to fit. They have the same frame rail spacing so I don't see why not.

Re: Side Saddle tanks on 71 lwb
the 73-87 tanks are alot longer. i have also looked into it. you would have to cut out part of the cab corner to make it work. but i dont see why that would be an issue

Re: Side Saddle tanks on 71 lwb
Maybe since I have a LWB, if I get the side saddle tanks for the SWB 73-87, They'll fit without cutting the cab?
Thank you for the responses so far. This has been helpful. |
