Mounting Lokar Shifter to 350 Turbo Question

I got my transmission today and the shifter that came with my truck, a big pile of parts, is a Lokar 4 point mount shifter for a 350 turbo. I just sat it on the transmission and all the bolt points line up, but there must be a missing part or something. The front mount of the shifter have indentions on the sides of the transmission case, and the mount is threaded, is there supposed to be some kind of stud or something that fits in the hole on the side of the transmission. My finger is pointing to the hole I am referring to. I just have the shifter laying on the transmission so you can see what I am talking about. Thanks for any help

Re: Mounting Lokar Shifter to 350 Turbo Question

I don't believe that was used for anything to mount to.

Re: Mounting Lokar Shifter to 350 Turbo Question

I've got a Lokar on my TH350 out in the driveway on my '46 but its raining like hell so if you still have this question tomorrow (if the rain stops) or can't find the answer on the Lokar website/help line, I'll go under and take a picture. I didn't install it or I'd tell you how it mounts, sorry!

I did not find a good site for instructions on Lokar, I will continue to look but if you can take a look at yours, I would appreciate it. Wait till the rain stops, I am not in a big hurry. Thanks

Re: Mounting Lokar Shifter to 350 Turbo Question

We sell all Lokar products. The show a pic with a bolt there but none come on the tranny. I don't have a set of instructions handy. I think that has to do with the floor mtd emergency brake. We have online installation instructions but can't find one on this. We also sell all replacement parts. I will keep looking for the inst.

Re: Mounting Lokar Shifter to 350 Turbo Question

I don't think the parking brake has anything to do with the mount. The mount on the other side of the transmission is exactly the same. The parking brake mounts on the saddle mount that goes over the transmission.

Re: Mounting Lokar Shifter to 350 Turbo Question

Take a piece of bar stock that fits into the hole. cut it flush with the housing and tap a 5/16 hole in it. run a bolt in and lock it with a nut. It will hold the front stable and the rear bolts lock the shifter in place.

Re: Mounting Lokar Shifter to 350 Turbo Question

Dwcsr is right but I don't think it is threaded the mounting bracket is.
Either way there is supposed to be a bushing there , both sides.

Damn good idea. Maybe thats how they actually mount.
We sell these but I have never installed one

The tranny is not threaded, I think he means to thread the cut down bar stock

Re: Mounting Lokar Shifter to 350 Turbo Question

I figured I would end up doing the bar stock idea. I was looking at the Lokar sight, it looks like there is probably some kind of bushing with nut or something that must come with the kit according to the picture. I can make something I am sure. Thanks for everyones help and ideas.

Yes, drill a hole in the bar stock and thread it so the bushing stays in place

It is a bushing with a hole in it and it is a press fit ,it helps to center the bracket. The bracket IS threaded and the bolt has a jam nut. Open one of yours and you will see them.

Re: Mounting Lokar Shifter to 350 Turbo Question

I don't have anything to open. I got the shifter with the truck, mainly a big pile of parts and this shifter was included. Looks like the guy did not include some of the hardware. I am pretty sure I can rig something up that will work. Thanks

Re: Mounting Lokar Shifter to 350 Turbo Question

I quoted mgbmike, My truck is on my lift and if you want I will snap a pic for you. The back bolts on the tail shaft actually hold it and front ones stop side to side movement. I also do not think they are drilled all the way thru!
Otherwise you could poke a hole in your housing. The reason you don't have yours is they are kinda a one shot deal once in. They are a drag to get back out to reuse.

Re: Mounting Lokar Shifter to 350 Turbo Question

Thanks, I ended up using a 5/16 nut in the cavity on the transmission and threaded a 5/16" stud into it, then put a lock washer and nut on the outside. Seems to work good. I did run my modulator line inside the bracket instead of outside. I don't know if it would make any difference. Thanks

Sorry to resurrect this old thread but hoping for some help. For only $80 on Craigslist I bought a used Lokar shifter to replace the lousy-working Hurst on my TH350. I didn't know to ask for these bushings but I since read a Lokar installation article in Custom Classic Trucks (I think) that shows them. It doesn't have the Lokar shift knob, but that should be straight forward to order from them.

Any reason a 5/16" bolt with the head in the case indentation and dual nuts on each side of the bracket wouldn't hold it? If I understand it, this part of the mount just stabilizes the installation and prevent side-to-side movement. I'd use Loctite to hold it once installed. Opinions appreciated.

Re: Mounting Lokar Shifter to 350 Turbo Question

The bracket is threaded........there is a short stud with lock nut that simply snugs up to hold tight on tranny on opposing sides. I have the instructions..........I'll try to scan them.

Here is the exploded view....pretty much self explanatory....I have the complete instructions (kind of wrinkly and a bit oily) I could scan if you need.

Oh man that would be a huge help. Would you post it here or amil it, or what? I can drop you a PM with my address if that's the way you want to go.

Bldga55 - Was there any reason I'm not understanding that you used a nut with a stud rather than just using a bolt with the head in the cavity and the threads sticking out?

Re: Mounting Lokar Shifter to 350 Turbo Question

I bought some round aluminum that just fit in the holes on my tranny and tapped them to accept the bolts. I had to put the rod in my drill press and and I sanded it down to size. I bought it at True Value Hardware.
