"Im new at this whole thing"

So im a new member and this is my first post which is making me question wether or not i should have started with a build thread, but that seems to me where I spend 99% of my time on this site so i figured id contribute my starting a thread with my new(old) buy.

So to start this off I found the truck i wanted finnally in Pendelton, Or its a 69 gmc fleetside 4x4 short bed which is exactly what i was looking for, but the question was now how do i get the truck when im a measly 20 hours south down in Ventura county CA.

Well none the less I finnally rallied and drove with my moms boyfriend ( dont get me started ) in our 05 gmc xuv in opposition to my 88 3/4 ton basically for a better ride up. Good choice right? No we get up there with a borrowed trailer and the bags on the xuv revealed there pin holes and inability to hold the weight of the truck. Yay me! But to lessen the length of this post and the increasing number of spelling errors here are some pictures of my new(old) truck There yah go tell me whatcha all think

Very very very nice. I would fix it up all original. Go back with same color. Put some rally wheels on it. Man I'm jealous.

Welcome from Southeast Missouri.

Looks good from here.

What kind of engine and tranny does it have?

Shorty 4X4's are pretty rare around here, so are GMC's.

Have fun with your new (old) truck.

3800 what do you think? too much? most of the rust is taken care of and the motor seems pretty fresh

Re: "Im new at this whole thing"

well i'm def not an expert at the restore thing, but it also depends on what the market is like out there in Cali! i know things are alot more expensive out there but seems reasonable for a good running, rust free truck!!!! Good luck with it and have fun! Definitely keep it!

Re: "Im new at this whole thing"

So here is the plan as of now.
1. put a 4bbl carb on it with a auto choke, theres a manual chooke on there now thats put on backwards and im just going to put a new intake and 4bbl
2.Disks on the front, and maybe on the rear. Question i have an 01 chevy 1500 z71 that i totalled and im wondering if the rear end would would work with minor work. It seems like that would be easier than installing disks
3. Put in power steering. Ive never done this before and shoulod be pretty interesting
4. Put in a tilt wheel steering of my 75

So thats the begining after i get to that point i want to start a frame off and go thru the whole thing put a lift on her and some 33's and a locker rear end

Re: "Im new at this whole thing"

You have to keep the front and rear gears matched up for the 4x4 so it might be easier to put the discs on your current rear end.

Re: "Im new at this whole thing"

Cool. It's hard to tell really from the pics but the tires look to me like they've got less than half their original tread. Still a good deal for 100.00 though.
