Engine Help

Ok, so I just bought a new vehicle and I cannot find anything on the block. The front pad reads F0304C. There is no casting number that I can find. On the passenger side behind the head there is what looks like a tag that say C 34. The heads are 63-65 283 powerpak or 62-64 327 vette(have a build date of 1963). There is an XT on the drivers head and a T on the passenger head, both have a solid triangle that follows. Anyone know what that means on the heads? Anyone know what the engine is and what the C 34 means? thanks

Re: Engine Help

The casting number you are looking for is on the Driver's side behind the left head.

This is on a bare 350 block sitting in my garage but it shows where the casting number you want should be on a small block.

Most likely the 283 Casting number would be one of these

3737739 1957-64 283 170-290 2 220-290hp Corvette's
3756519 1958-62 283 170-315 2 passenger, corvette
3789817 1958-68 283 2
3789935 1961-66 283 only 170-315 2 passenger, corvette
3790721 1962-65 283 170-220 2 Chevy II recessed oil filter boss
3792582 1964-65 283 2
3794226 1958-63 283 170-195 2 passenger
3834810 1964-66 283 195-200 2 passenger, chevelle, truck
3834812 1962-63 283 170-195 2 passenger, commercial trucks

3849852 1957-66 283 multiple 2 truck, passenger, chevelle

Re: Engine Help

My guess is: Flint plant, March 4, 1960 - 283 (170 HP)

There should be a casting number where Mr48 said.

That's where mine are. This is why I love digital cameras. Just stick the camera behind the dr side valve cover and face the camera toward bellhousing and click.
