Can Anyone identify This Frame?
I got this frame from a friend that had it in his backyard for awhile. He said he did not know what it was from but it looks very similiar to youngrodders frame. Is this style frame good for a subframe, or complete frame.Attachment 558404

Re: Can Anyone identify This Frame?
Fat Mike-
This looks just like my G-body frame. Mine was modified where the car body sits. I can't see from your pics because the floor is covering it. The PO modified mine in the back to mount the fuel tank. Also with this frame the steering box in in the way of the radiator. I also had to shorten the radiator (core) support I think 4". BY doing this, I had to get a different radiator to fit. I didn't want to spend big money on a custom radiator but I found on that works good. I can help with any measurements that you need if you go this route. Marc |

Re: Can Anyone identify This Frame?
I was think of using a 47 frame that someone cut front and rear off. I was thinking of using the subframe and rear off this g-body frame to make one complete frame.

I didn't realize that you are building a 59. I take back the comments about the shortened core support. I don't know how much my measurments will help you but I will offer anything that I can. Marc |

Re: Can Anyone identify This Frame?
Mike it also looks like an A body frame (chevelle, GTO). It's hard to tell exactly from the pics. My front clip is from a 67 chevelle.

Re: Can Anyone identify This Frame?
Youngrodder I am also building a 47 gmc which i was planning on using these parts for. I really can't decide if I want to use the original frame or make one with parts.
Kim 57 I plan on cleaning the frame up alittle and will try to post some new pictures. Is this a good subframe to use thou? I would like to use it on one of my frames. |

Re: Can Anyone identify This Frame?
A-body and G-body are very simular as far as I can tell from some quick research.
Here is a list (compliments of Wikipedia) of all the G-body cars my year. Buick Century (1978-1981) Buick Regal (1978-1987) Chevrolet El Camino (1978-1987) Chevrolet Malibu (1978-1983) Chevrolet Monte Carlo (1978–1988) GMC Caballero (1978-1987) Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme (1978–1988) Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais (1978–1984) Oldsmobile Cutlass Cruiser (1978-1983) Oldsmobile Cutlass Salon (1978-1981) Pontiac Grand Prix (1978–1987) Pontiac LeMans (1978-1981) Mine I believe came from a 78 Grand Prix. That was also what I used when ordered different chassis parts over the years. Good luck Marc |

I like the frame. It rode great with just the coil spring suspension and sat very low. Building a frame from scratch is out of my comfort level so I really can't speak to that. I am sure it comes down to time vs money. Marc |

Re: Can Anyone identify This Frame?
You'll need to know if it is metric or not when you are ordering repair parts. Looks A/G to me. I'm not certain but I thought A was pre-77 and G was 78 and up and G was metric.

Re: Can Anyone identify This Frame?
rear looks like G body but that front hub is throwing me off. Also the motor mounts aren't write for an Abody.

Re: Can Anyone identify This Frame?
Just so you know there is an adapter on the one hub that was showing. The other thing is that I think the rearend is posi because when i picked the frame up the hubs spin the same direction.

Re: Can Anyone identify This Frame?
Maybe some dimensions might help. Wheel base and track width. THAT will definitely rule one direction or the other.

Re: Can Anyone identify This Frame?
I'm not sure I could tell a G body from an A body. It does look enough like the G body I used to have that I would believe that is what it is.
But those front hubs? They don't look right for anything I've seen.

Re: Can Anyone identify This Frame?
Looking at it again it looks like it has the 5mph front bumper mounts. I think those came after the A bodies were done. The front hub looks like its off a truck.

Re: Can Anyone identify This Frame?
There should be a VIN stamped in the frame. I believe it would be on the driver's side frame rail near where the firewall would be. But I have also seen them on the second to last crossmember.

Re: Can Anyone identify This Frame?
that IS a knock off hub for a wire wheel, you know like the lowriders use, the left is white and the right is red, put $$$ on that one for sure!
