anyone carry tools with them?
So I got this nice little tool box to carry tools/extra parts. I just wanted to see what some others are carrying with them. Do I take a whole set of combo wrenches and sockets or just vice grips, pliers, and screw drivers?
Also since Im on air what are some things I should have with me? Extra line, fittings, fuses, wire ties, wire. Since everyone loves pictures.. This is the tool box I got for a gift from my father. The guy who pin striped my truck gets them and stripes them up to sell. He could do anything you wanted with the pin stripes/ paint. ![]() This is just some of the other stuff I carry with me somtimes. Im thinking about taking that cooler to get pin striped too. ![]() and a truck picture just because ![]() |

Re: anyone carry tools with them?
wanna hear a funny one. last year I was taking my flatbed up to the mountains to store it at my unlcles place, (7:30 pm) I start to motice my lights dimming. Oh great !Alternater pooped out. Well just the day before I picked up an old aternator for 5 bucks at a yard sale. (yippee) and I had my whrenches under the seat!!!! one problem, It was dark outside and no flashlight. I about used up my cell phone battery and my girls patience having her hold up her cellphone so I could use the light on it to see what I was doing.
Moral of story: carry a flashlight!

Lovin' the cooler!
I've actually used old metal coolers for tools/cleaning supplies, depending on the type of trip ahead.

I have a small box i take along but it's surprising how many tools you can get in it. On long trips I have a plastic tub that I load up. Here is a list I made up for my use. It is a MS Word document. You can use it as a guide or open it in your word processor and add more stuff to it, take stuff off or change it to your hearts delight. I check items off as I do them or load them up. LockDoc

Re: anyone carry tools with them?
I carry a couple things in the chevy, but I carry EVERYTHING in my rock crawler....at some point or another I've needed all that crap. The toolbox in it weighs about 80lbs.

I carry tools in my truck not to fix it, but to pull parts at JY's, etc.

yeah that's the truth. I broke my panhard bar mount off my jeep while wheeling.....no welder with me and no way to get one up the trail we were on. So I used two ratchet straps criss-crossed to keep to axle in place. Finished that trail then drove about 20 miles to the nearest shop that could fix it. |

Re: anyone carry tools with them?
I keep tools in my car all summer in case I get time to stop by a salvage yard and scrounge parts. I use a canvas tool bag that is about a foot long. I have a standard set of sockets with a few extensions, couple crescent wrenches, screw drivers, allen wrenches, wire cutters, tin snips, small hammer, impact driver, black tape, pliers, vise grips, probably some other stuff I can't remember. I use a flashlight on the job (boiler inspector) so I always have one. Sometimes I will even bring my set of gear wrenches and full size socket set and just have them in the trunk if I know I'll be stopping somewhere.

Re: anyone carry tools with them?
I've got a 9 1/2 foot X 7 foot deck and didn't have any where to carry tools......go figure!
![]() Ended up hanging a couple of under-deck boxes. Powder coated with SS doors. Inside the left one is a complete set of 3/8 and 1/2" drive socket sets, a set of combinations, box ends, and assorted screw drivers. A hydraulic jack, jack stands, jumper cables, 12V trouble light, rags, 2 qts of oil, some empty coffee cups, and probably some empty soda cans. The right one has a bunch of cleaning stuff, two gallons of water, a tow chain, tie-down straps, and misc stuff. I was in the check-out at Lowes several months ago and they had some self-stick battery powered LED push-on, push-off lights. $6.00 each. So I bought one for each box and they do a great job lighting up the inside of the boxes at night. I don't carry the stuff for myself as much as just being prepared. You never know. I hear someone saying..." it's killing your mileage"......what mileage? ![]()

Re: anyone carry tools with them?
I have the basic tools, sockets and wrenches and stuff, and a 12 volt impact wrench. I have a spare tire, but carry some cans of fix a flat and a tire repair kit. Going to get one of those emergency jump starters with a compressor at some point.

I never go anywhere, in anything, without a knife and a leatherman (Wave currently) but haven't thrown much more than that in the truck yet (just got it)
