small window to big window swap

I am considering going from a small window to a large window on my 67 cab. Can anybody tell me how difficult that would be? I have a great Big window "donor" cab. Like the look better...and it's easier to see behind. Thanks for any help.

Re: small window to big window swap

I've never done it, but I can imagine it's quite an undertaking. Considering there are still a million of these trucks out there, I'd just swap cabs, just my $.02.

I almost bet you can find someone with a decent 67 Big window cab That would be willing to trade then you can help each other out with the process.

Re: small window to big window swap

I like the small window cabs also so you can guess what I think. It would probably be easier to swap cabs than do the bodywork.

haha, I've got a feeling this was directed at me.
Gimme a break.
Let's just say his addition of the word "considering" triggered my impulse to "persuade" against it, simply based on voicing my opinion here. Is that not allowed? Or is this some commie forum?

And if you want to nitpick about this crap, let me ask this, where exactly did he ask "HOW to do it", that you read? More like, "how difficult is it".

Keep going if you want to instigate pointless argument but that's not why I joined this otherwise excellent forum!

Just to keep it on topic, I'll agree with the others, the cab swap would probably turn out MUCH cleaner than attempting the slice and dice swap.
Good luck!

Re: small window to big window swap

Now Boys, play nice. hahaha Just considering it as I prefer the look of the BBW. I know there are less 67 small windows around, but that's not a big thing to me. I looked at the post that John provided...and I think that answered my question. Probably (87.56% sure I'll stay small window to avoid all the possible headaches/time/costs.

When it's done it really won't matter much...just gotta go to a chiropractor so my old neck will turn to look better...or save $$$ using my side mirrors more.

Thanks to all for the input. I appreciate it.

Re: small window to big window swap

I'm the one that did the swap. Ton of work, and if I could do it again I'd find the cab that Had what I wanted. In my case, I'd have fixed the small window cab because I ended replacing everything on what I thought was a better cab. Anyways, as the guys said I'd recommend you find a cab with the window you want.

hahaha, alright, new guy is sensitive here, doesn't know any of you! I apologize for taking that personal, but maybe you should quote who you are speaking to/about to avoid confusion!

well, glad you're finding what you're looking for.
The way I see it is when I swap in some late model bucket seats with head rests (much safer in the case of getting rear ended), it'll look better with the small window, rather than seeing the full head rest behind through the big window... not to mention I drove a truck with a capper with no side windows for awhile, and that was very similar with the limited rear site looking like tunnel vision!

On the subject of changing cabs, don't you have to change the vin plate in the door jam?

Re: small window to big window swap

Yes, you will have to change the vin plate when you change cabs.

Here in Missouri I have never had any one check my vin tag, but I know some states do.

I have a '67 with a small window and a '71 with the large window, I have no problem driving either one because of blocked view to the rear, of course I use to drive a vehicle without a view to the rear and I learned to use the side mirrors.

I am lost though without a good set of side mirrors.

Like some others have said, it is your truck do with it what you wish. With my limited abilities I would have to go with the cab swap.

Have a good day.

Danny
