project "WILD THING"
When me and my friend were in highschool(1992) I drove a 70 GMC 4x4 and he drove a 1972 blazer 2 wheel drive. We talked about building an extra-cab and how cool it would be. So I cut up a pic of my GMC and taped it backed together and made it look like an extra-cab. Well years went by as they always do and still no xtra-cab. In 1999 as I was going through some old pics I came across the pic that I had made in highschool and that got me thinking again. Well in Jan. 2000 I found 2 complete trucks, 1972 3/4 four wheel drive long bed and a 1971 two wheel drive long bed the guy was asking $1000 so I offered him $800 and he took it. And so it began.

Re: project "WILD THING"
Love the idea. Are you going to use the swing out half doors like the newer trucks?

Re: project "WILD THING"
I would love to have a bad ass 4 door or extra cab 4wd short box.
What is the window out of for the extra cab? are you using a long box frame with a short bed or is it going to be completely custom chopped up long bed frame? |

Re: project "WILD THING"
The window is out of a late 70's dodge club wagon, it has been split apart and flattened(the dodge windows had a slight curve) it is also 2" taller and 2" wider. The cab had been extended 18" and the short bed has been cut down 6" so it all fits on a long bed frame with no mods to frame.

Re: project "WILD THING"
I'll have to say...thats the nicest fab of an extended cab for these trucks. The window piece you used matches the other frame pretty well. Is that from a Dodge ext cab?
Nice work, and well done!

Looks pretty sharp - kudos on building what you wanted from when you were younger. Looking forward to seeing the final result.

I really like how the extra window looks like it belongs there and the proportions of it all looks really good.

Re: project "WILD THING"
When I got it back from the painter I just had to put the wheels and tires on to see what it was going to look like. What do you guys think?
