Bench seat swap info needed

I'm wondering if anyone has any dimension info on various bench seats, maybe from swap projects. I'm planning on removing the race bucket seats from my truck and installing a bench seat. The problem I'm having is that, because of the rollcage in my truck, I can only fit a seat that is no wider than 55". The factory bench seat is 60" wide and won't fit without trying to narrow it somehow. I would rather find a seat that is already approx. 55" wide and use that. I've already contacted the two salvage yards close by and neither of them were of much help.
So, if anyone has any helpful info, it would be much appreciated!! Thanks in advance!!

You wouldn't happen to know how wide one of these newer-style seats is, do you?

Re: Bench seat swap info needed

For what its worth, I just put a 1990 chevy truck bench in my 65, and I feel its too narrow..

I woulda bet the farm it would be perfect, but just seems too narrow.

And for the life of me, I cannot remember what seat I had in my 60 last year. It fit almost door to door, and was perfect....

So for now, Im rolling the 90 seat, until swapmeet season where I can find a slightly wider one.

Re: Bench seat swap info needed

Heres the seat I had in my 60 last year. It fit GREAT, but I have no idea whats its from.

Any ideas??

Also, my 60 had a I6/TH350 combo. It apprears it had a "low" hump.

My 65 is a 4spd and it has a "high" hump..

The difference in humps is making my current seat sit several inches higher.

Can I change to a low hump with a 4spd??

Is there any chance that you could measure how wide this seat is? Specifically, from edge to edge across the top of the seat back. That's where I'm running into problems with some of the seats that I've looked at. Thanks in advance!!

I have a bench out of an 88 truck..... at the very top of the back it is approx. 53"

farther down the back it gets wider maybe 57" at the widest point.

I was guessing that. It fit alot better to me.

Guess I'll be hunting for one of those soon. The 90 seat just seems too narrow.

Now, as for the tranny hump...? Any opinions?

Jared, thank you for this info! Sounds like I need to try to find one of these seats and take a few more measurements. I might be able to make one of these fit.
Thanks again to all who helped!!!

I have a 89 seat in mine, I could take photos of the sides if that would help.

Not sure if this photos helps, and there is another shot 2 pic later that shows where I mounted the seatbelt retractor.

Re: Bench seat swap info needed

Astrochimp,
Thanks for the link to your pics! It looks like the mounting brackets sit a little further inboard as opposed to the factory brackets. Unless your seat wasn't mounted when the pic was taken, that is.
Anyhow, I was able to locate a seat out of a '90 Chevy truck this afternoon and I plan on taking some measurements early next week.
Thanks again for your help!!

seat was bolted in for that photo. I think I used one original hole (lots of holes hard to tell!)

Re: Bench seat swap info needed

I've got an early '60s Impala 4-door power bench in my '66. I think it measured in at about 54''-55'' wide.

Re: Bench seat swap info needed

Thanks, guys, for the info!
DWright, I wasn't aware that a power seat was even an option in an early 60s Imp. If it's 55" wide, I could make it fit.
As a side note, I hit up a neighbor who has a 91' Chevy truck to see if he'd let me measure his seat, and I'm pretty sure it will fit. It's going to be tight fitting between the cage main hoop, but there's enough give in the seat back cushion to fit.
Thanks again to all!!!

Re: Bench seat swap info needed

Well, I thought I'd update this thread.
I bought a '90 Chevy truck seat and was able to get it in the truck by removing the seat back from the seat bottom and putting them in separately and then bolting them together. But, it did fit, even with my cage. So, I'm pretty happy about that!!
Thanks again to all who replied!!!

Guys,
As soon as I get the seat upholstered and installed, and a new shifter bracket made, I'll take some pics and post them.
Thanks again to all who helped!!!!
