Stepside Guys-Help- Rear Bumper ?
I have a 67 Step and am looking at changing the rear bumper to a step type bumper. I like the look and the ability to put a light duty hitch on it. All of the catalogs have the smooth sport type bumper. Has anyone put a step bumper on? Does it require any modification and does anyone have any pics?
Thanks for the help!

Re: Stepside Guys-Help- Rear Bumper ?
I have no information, but I would be interested myself to see some options for rear bumpers for stepsides.
Neither of my stepsides have rear bumpers. Hopefully someone else will chime in with pictures and info. Danny

Re: Stepside Guys-Help- Rear Bumper ?
I have a sport bumper right now, I would really like to find an outlet for a step bumper with a hitch mount too!

Re: Stepside Guys-Help- Rear Bumper ?
I just bought a step bumper for my '69 Stepside. It's one of those dealership ones with the dealer's name stamped into it, pretty cool looking, from some Chevy dealer in Texas. I've heard of them before but this is the first one I've seen in person, and it's made specifically for the stepside box (it was marked '68 Chev) It's got the hitch on it too.
Funny, I was actually looking for a stepside "sport" bumper but got this because I couldn't find any regular ones. |

Re: Stepside Guys-Help- Rear Bumper ?
Mine was cut down/narrowed from a 79'ish fleetside truck. I like the way it looks

Re: Stepside Guys-Help- Rear Bumper ?
why not go with the better looking bumper, and put a real hitch underneath of it? A step bumper is usually only a class 1 hitch, which is like for towing a row boat or a garden tractor.

Re: Stepside Guys-Help- Rear Bumper ?
ECE makes a slick hidden Class III receiver hitch that mounts behind the bumper and uses a flip-up license plate bracket. I would use the better looking sport bumper with the hidden hitch if I needed one.
Go to the link above, scroll down in the first red box to "Hidden Receiver Hitches".

Re: Stepside Guys-Help- Rear Bumper ?
i see step bumpers at all the swap meets loads of them in the $10 price range// a tapemeasure and a bit of fab work plus a few cans of rattlecan paint works great if that's the type you desire

Re: Stepside Guys-Help- Rear Bumper ?
These pics aren't the best but you get the idea. It says "Flanagan Chev Co Mabank TX" on it. The bumper is super clean, looks almost like it's never been used. As you can see, my original bumper (still on the truck) is a huge, hideous beast.
I paid $40 for it, which is more than I wanted to spend, but I thought the bumper was unique enough to be worth it. I've heard of these dealership bumpers before but this is the first one I've ever seen in person. Plus, my old bumper was junk. It's crazy that there's not a hole in any of the fenders on this truck (all original) and yet the heavy plate back bumper rotted clean through almost all the way across. I was told my truck was a Wisconsin Hwy Dept truck, must have seen some winter use. |

Re: Stepside Guys-Help- Rear Bumper ?
Thanks for the pics. I have never seen one like that before. I was originally thinking about a chrome step bumper like the kind LMC is selling for 300+ but don't want to fork out that kind of dough for a bumper I have to modify. Anybody got ideas?

Re: Stepside Guys-Help- Rear Bumper ?
I think my truck had a toyota step bumper on it when I got it or some other kind of small truck. I've still got it...and some brackets. I have pictures but for some reason can't get the upload to work.

Re: Stepside Guys-Help- Rear Bumper ?
Here you go. And I'm not 100% sure this was froma Toyota, or even a Nissan. I just think it's from some smaller truck. Like I said, I still have it.

Re: Stepside Guys-Help- Rear Bumper ?
im using a 4" drop bumper off a square body chev on my 70 gmc. About a days work and i had it exactly where i wanted it. i cut the brackets off the old bumper and welded them on the drop bumper. If you have any questions or want pictures of how i did it, just send me an email/pm
