So I think I might have found my C-10

1969 Short Fleet

Truck has a newer crate motor (350)
4 speed manual (Factory original)
Power drums (6 lug)
Almost rust free (passenger side bottom of the door has a little)
AC (Looks factory but added about 7 years ago)

Here are my questions.....

Is a 350/4 speed manual factory truck rare at all? (I haven't found many)

How is the performance with this combo? Typically the 4 speeds are pretty bullet proof but I wouldnt exactly call it a performance based quick shifting tranny...lol

PO says the AC compressor will need to be replaced/fixed. He only gets about 2 months out of a charge before the coolness tapers off (whats a compressor go for?)

Truck has been a AZ/Utah truck its whole life....Where are some big time areas I should check for rust? (cab corners are good and so are floor boards)

Does it look like a factory 4 speed/hump?

Current owner has had it for 3 years and said its factory...(great guy but I wouldn't say the most informed 67-72 guy on the planet)

Hmmm... bummer. Did you link them from CL? If so, that's probably why I can't see them (work computer).

Re: So I think I might have found my C-10

It looks like a factory four speed. I'd suggest the trans is a truck 4 speed with a granny first gear. While this is a great trans for towing, it's not a quick shifting trans.
Take a look at the wheel openings and bed corners for rust or previous repairs.

Thanks for the info....

I'm not trying to build a drag truck so I'm ok with the towing gear. Is it the same muncie that came in the passenger cars with a different first gear?

When the time comes could I have the 4 speed overhauled with a different 1st/forth for freeway flying?

http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge...on_gateway.htm

Click on SM 465 link.

If it's stock, this is most likely the trans. It's not the same as the car 4-speeds as those were usually a Muncie. If you're thinking of changing the trans characteristics, consider going with a 5-speed OD trans or changing the differential gear for better highway cruising.

Re: So I think I might have found my C-10

Well she is home......

Drove to Utah friday late afternoon and stayed at the in laws house.e Got up in the morning and went and met up with the current owners of old yeller.

Truck is really clean and rust free.....(It will need paint eventually)

After going over everything and striking a deal they loaded me up with all the manuals, spare keys, sales contract from 1984 when they bought it in AZ and every reciept for work done over the years.

Truck has a newly fabbed exhaust with glass packs that I will sell once the dual 2.5" magnaflow header back system goes on. Truck also has a bolt on hidden hitch with a hinged lic. plate that I will be removing and selling as well.

Truck made it back the 400 miles on 1.5 tanks of gas cruising at 70-75 mph oil pressure looked great and the temp stayed good even while going through 85 degree vgas weather.

Couple things I have learned after the little trip.....lol

The truck needs a tach..... manuals and no tach should never have happend.

Truck needs a new AC compressor. I would love to find a AC dash/control panel and get it all clean and factoey looking.

The truck needs some serious sound deading...haha I need to knock the volume down about 50db to get to my happy place.

Last but not least..... Truck needs a disc conversion yesterday. Stops ok (like a boat...) when you plan ahead but I would be a little nervous traversing the so cal freeways as is.

Overall very cool truck and a fun ride...

Disregard my question from the Resto-Mod thread... I see that you did buy it.

Can't wait to see some progress shots. Where's the maiden voyage pics?

My wife aactually got a couple shots while driving home. I will deffinatley post as everything comes together. I imagine brakes, suspension and wheels/tires will happen fairly quick. Stock ride height is terrible and the wheels don't do much for me.

Probably some headers, magnaflow header back system and perhaps new Aluminum heads and a roudier cam as the next stage.

Now I just need to figure out the suspension while staying sort of on a budget.

I think I am going to stay 6 lug. I really like the ECE 4.5/6 drop but I havew been eyeing the CPP 4/6 or 5/7 grand slam(I want to go as low as possible w/o running into driveshaft/allingement issues). I think I want the brake booster set up and I didnt see anything like that on the ECE website. On the contrary CPP seems like a hit and miss customer service wise. I need to see what kind of "special forum" deal they can workl and I will pick it up since there down the street.

That's not factory AC. Looks like a Vintage Air compressor. Check their website for a replacement.

Neat shot of the truck going through the gorge getting closer to NV. Truck handled great and didnt have any shimmys or shakes cornering. I can't wait to see how she does once dumped propper.

Younger brother didnt have a chance...

Coming into Vegas. Shot of the speedway off ramp and another with the stratosphere in the background.
