Well I am interested, but the miles between just wouldn't work. Generous offer on your part though...

Re: 1968 swb 2wd $850.00!!!! Cl
It has no title. That's means that someone STILL owns it as far as DMV is concerned but it's not the person selling it. The guy is probably pulling the "bill of sale" bit which is bull sheet.
My dad retired as an auto theft detective and used to love to grill people on why there were in possession of a vehicle that did not have their name on the title. He had direct access to DMV records. He would always say if it's not yours (as far as we are concerned), and you have it, you must have stolen it. About that time you could "smell" the fear!!! |

Re: 1968 swb 2wd $850.00!!!! Cl
Anyone know what the Title research process is like in AZ? In New Mexico - where I'm going through the process, and everything is more lenient, I still imagine a proctology exam being more fun. So a State that is really interested in protecting the owner - it could be a real b#&ch.
However at that price it may be worth it... and I'm only about four hours away.... Anybody willing to put me up if my wife kicks me out for buying yet another non running vehicle? |

Re: 1968 swb 2wd $850.00!!!! Cl
Apply for a bonded title at DMV and pay $3.00 for all the info on the registered owner. Track the down the owner and ask him to get a duplicate of the title and have him sign it over. It could be that easy
Or.... If the owner is no where to be found, write him a certified letter requesting appropriate action. After 15 days from sending the certified letter and no response, take your USPO reciept to the MVD and they will approve you for a bonded title. I know a bonding agency that charges $160.00. Of course first thing would be to ask the seller what happened to the title. |

Not having a title means taking a big risk. Even if you do find a title you better hope it doesn't list a lienholder. My 68' had one that was 10 yrs old. The Texas DPS made me get an official letter from the bank showing the vehicle had been paid off. The loan was old so the bank didn't have that info readily available. Took a few weeks to get it all ironed out.

Have to be careful how you approach the real owner if you find them and if you want the truck. They can flat drive up and take it with a deputy escort.
This next part is no BS and I bought a 69 camaro shell this way. You find the owner and tell them what is up. Also tell them that it will more than likely get abandoned and picked up. Since your name is still with DMV, the police will contact you and you will legally be responsible for towing and impounding. Let them know you can help if they will fill out a lost title app. This guy jumped at the chance to be out of the mess. I got the car for $250 because I scared the crap out of the guy that had it with no proof of ownership. |

Re: 1968 swb 2wd $850.00!!!! Cl
That's curious, AZ sounds quite a bit easier than NM. Here you buy a Bond and pay three times the current value of the vehicle. Do the same footwork outlined by c10seconds. You aren't able to sell the vehicle for three years, which isn't a huge problem. After three years you get a full title, and your Bond back.
