Just bought a 62 and two 64's

Just bought three trucks to make into one. Someone started on this, and I'm going to start over from scratch. Currently the 64 shortbox has the front clip off the 62 one ton. The 62 cab is in better shape, (and I like the 60-63 cabs better) so I'm going to put the 62 cab on the 64 SWB frame. Rad support is good, comes with a good hood, (not in pics) good front inner and outer fenders, complete dash, good box walls and V8 mounts. Rear fenders are crap, and its missing a tailgate. Currently has a 305/ Turbo 350 trans combo in it, which I may swap for my 66 283 I got sitting in my garage. The third truck is in basically just a cab with a halfton LWB frame.

Re: Just bought a 62 and two 64's

looks like a good start.
remember that the front mounts don't line up when putting a 60-62 on a 63 -66 frame.
It is not a huge deal, but it is not a direct bolt on either... I think most have just drilled new holes, and spaced it out a little bit.
are those step fenders glass?

I like the rear fenders on the stepside, wish mine looked like that. Maybe I will have to get creative and make mine like that.

Great score...I would build the C30, for the most unique rig in the area. In any case, good luck and thanks for sharing.

Hmm.. I didn't know that about the body mounts! I'll tackle it anyway though. At least you probably saved me a few bad words for when I would have found that out haha..

I like one tons too, but I really want to put the SWB frame to good use with a traditional roddin theme with a redone chassis and maybe a touch of patena. I might keep the 1 ton chassis for the 66 Ext cab I have kickin around, maybe throw that long fleetside box on it..

Oh and the step fenders are metal. I saw welding bubbles and a horrible patch job on the front lower section, not sure if I want to save them.

I think the rear fenders are the only body part that I'll have to find a replacement for since they have big ugly patches on the front sections. The taillight holes are cool, but I think I might use the taillights I removed from my old 60 Apache before I sold it. Heres a picture of them, they are 63 Impala lenses on trailer light buckets.

Maybe we can work something out, I'm not in a hurry to use it since I have enough other projects on the go.

Re: Just bought a 62 and two 64's

Wow,that 62 1 ton would look sweet as a low ride wrecker, find an old school boom set up,drop it and drag with it.Nice score on all.

I already swapped the 62 cab onto the SWB chassis, but the more I look at the 1 ton chassis with those wicked steel 18's, I want to do something with it too! I was thinking of slamming it and mounting the rear diff OVER TOP of the frame rail. (instead of notching the frame) ..has anyone ever done that???
