Repair door latch control

My inside door latch control spring broke. LMC wanted about $21.00 for one including shipping. I took mine out. Drilled a hole in the piece that the rod goes in from the door latch. Then I bought a throttle spring. One with both ends straight. I made a hook on one end, and put it in the hole I drilled. I drilled a hole in the door where I wanted it to be. Put a bolt in the door, and tightened it with a nut. Then put two flat washers on the bolt, and put the end of the spring between the flat washers, and then tightened the other nut up. I adjusted it til I liked the pressure on the handle. The spring cost $3.00.
