8 lug stuff

does anybody know if the front suspension on a van unbolts & rolls out like the pickups? i have a late 70s c30 van at home & when i go home on leave i am going to check on a 60-63 lwb sitting in a boys carport. dont know if it dont drive or owner dont drive anymore but thought it would make a cool 3/4 ton truck if the van stuff would work. it is 350/350/14 bolt on propane & i traded an oil change for it. runs perfect but i have never even looked under a van so i dont know whats under there or even how to get the engine out. thanks!

Re: 8 lug stuff

The full sized van suspension is essentially the same as a pickup. However the track width on the vans is wider than a pickup. Not having compared them part for part, I'm thinking that the difference is in the crossmember. That would make the most sense to me. If that is actually the case, you could still switch to the van spindles with rotors and calipers. You will need to switch balljoints as well.

Re: 8 lug stuff

The C30 van spindles should be the same as C20 pickup, the cross link is longer and the rear axle is wider, those knuckles will fit the 60-62 1/2 ton lower balljoint tapers if you remove the topping edge from the spindle lower holes, the uppers from the newer truck bolt in.
