Re: Tailgate latches
If you would like, have them ship it to me and I will forward to you. Canadians have problems having American products shipped as well.

Re: Tailgate latches
Stuff that rattles drives me bonkers... and tailgates fit that catagory.
I used these latches from Speedway and mounted them inside the bed. They are rubber and since they are elastic help to minimize squeaking. And at $5.99 a pair they are quite reasonable. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Rubber...atch,1581.html |

Re: Tailgate latches
I have the marine latches that were linked above, but chose not to run them on my '56.
I went with these instead.. http://www.pros-pick.com/hiddenlatchkits.html

Re: Tailgate latches
Gas prices here range from $2.83-$2.95 a gallon within a 10 mile radius. Kinda crazy there's that much difference in a relatively small area.

Re: Tailgate latches
Here are the ones I did, they are modified late 90s chevy S10 latches with a home made bellcrank and linkage system, the handle is going to be aluminum as soon as I can make it, whole set up cost about 20$ and a few hours

Re: Tailgate latches
the latches are from mar-k the cables are from auto zone, the trick is cut the inside lip on the tailgate and weld it up so the cable will fold inside ,out of sight...

Re: Tailgate latches
I have no pics, but can describe what I did on the tailgate I built for my 66.
used 1" OD pipe, cut to about 8 inches long, 2 pieces. Welded a cap on one end of each, and cut a slot in the side of each, about 1.5 inches long, and about 3 inches from open end of pipe. used 2 long, stainless bolts, with the heads cut off, as pis, and found springs at the hardware store to spring load them. drill and tap a hole in the bolt (pin) to line up with the slot, and use a 1/4 20 bolt to act as a pull handle. Then you cut a 1" hole on side of tailgate for the pipe, and a slot to align with the slot of the pipe, and weld the pipes in so the pins can go into hole you drill in the bed side in the closed position. I went one step after this, using some cable and a handle I fabbed up, so I have a pull handle for my latches, to activate both p[ins at once. Was a completely homemade solution, but is working real well for me. |
