SBC #'s

Can anyone tell me what the #'s that are stamped on the front of the block indicate? I'm pretty sure that it is for the year/make/model/ect. but how do you know what they mean? I have looked everywhere for this informaton and have struck out, so I call out to all my fellow Chevy lovers for some info.
Thanks in advance.

Re: SBC #'s

Yea I saw that site before and it helped me identify the block, heads, and crank, but unfortunately I have next to zero reading comprehension, so it is still a little foggy to me. I was hoping to find a site that I could just plug in the #'s and wham, bam, thank you mam, the magical answer would pop out. But hey thanks for helping out.

Re: SBC #'s

Here, scroll down this page to where you see the two HC's. It shows it to be either a 275 hp 327 or a 250 hp 350. I don't know just how accurate these listings are. It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure a couple 1965 300 hp 327's I had were the HC code. What heads are on the engine? casting numbers of both the block and heads might help narrow it down.

http://www.nastyz28.com/gm-chevy-cod...s-suffix-5.php

This site shows the same thing though...

Re: SBC #'s

Thanks guys, I always thought it was the first two or three letters on the stamping code that you used to look these up not the last. I know it is a 66 327 from the block, heads, and crank, just mostly wondering what the stamping indicated, like for each letter and each number.
stamp TO725HC
block 3803352
Heads 3782461
crank 4577
Thanks guys.

There should be another set of numbers/letters along with the ones you gave. Get those and let us know what they are. They should go similar to 17D198041. Those will tell you the exact month, year, plant and # off assymby plant. And yes, according to the number you posted it is a '65 327, originaly 275 HP or '69 350 with originaly 250 HP.

They will be right near the other numbers/letters (TO...HC) that you posted.

On a Small Block Chevy: Machined pad in front of the passenger side cylinder head. Often hidden by the alterator.

Look on this pad and you will find them. Not sure how clean your motor is so you might have to take a wire brush and a stick of chalk to see them.

Re: SBC #'s

If he can see the rear casting numbers at the drivers side behind the left head there`s only three differant castings for the early 327, which here are the last four digits for each, 1362, 2870, 0721, those were offered in `65/66.

Re: SBC #'s

That's the info I was looking for, thanks. NtheFamily I'm use to seeing two set of #'s also, but this block only has one set. The block is out of the vehicle and is clean, so I know there is only one set of #'s. Big thanks to Rich 5150 69 for answering my question.
