interchanging parts from different years

I have an 83 c10 that I am beginning to build. I have come across an 87 Suburban that has lots of parts but I am wondering if a few of them will work on my 83'.

One thing is the guage cluster. Wasn't sure since the 87 was FI.

Also, can I put a steering column out of the 87 into my 83? Can the wipers and stuff be wired into the later model column?

Those were two of the major things I was wondering about.

Re: interchanging parts from different years

Baclay...I've run into similar challenges. Though I can't help with these specific parts, as I've been looking for stuff for my '86 C10, one way I've found to make these comparisons is to use the LMC Truck website catalog. The 73-87 trucks are in the same catalog as the suburbans, generally on the same or opposite pages. If you look at each listing, you can see if the part number is the same for a given item. I've done similar things with the catalog from Brothers trucks as well. Of course, when in doubt, the experienced folks here can set you straight.

Good luck.

Most of the big "hard parts" will interchange. The things that get "sticky" are in the electronics, especially when you talk EFI.
