I did this Saturday...

http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=402836

and today I rebuilt the AM/FM tape deck that the post office tore up...took it apart, cleaned it, polished it, changed the bad shaft out, and reassembled it and tested it...now it's new and everything works, all lights, tape deck, radio, and it sounds pretty good actually...

Went to the "Little Guy" Nostalgia Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park Saturday. It was HOT and HUMID, I gave up at 1:30, packed up and drove home.

There was some very nice iron on the lot for sure.

First of all, this has been a busy week. Flew to Albuquerque, NM for a conference. Arrived home Thursday night then flew to Denver on Friday and then drove to Guernsey, WY. Arrived home today.

Had a chance to pick up my high-backs from the upholsterer this evening. He did a great job rebuilding and recovering. I'm pleased. They look better in person. Cell phone picture.

Two words....Yard Work! I spent most of my weekend working in my yard again. The heat last Summer beat everything up pretty bad. We had a freeze this Winter and it took it's toll as well.

I have been diligently working each weekend trying to get things back in shape. I have a couple of backyard events coming up so I want it to look good. Progress has been slow and expensive, but I am getting there.

Beyond that, I bought a set of wheels for a project I recently picked.

Nothing truck related. Truck project has been tabled until the house exterior painting project is finished.

Nothing exciting. It's a late model deal I have been working on. I'll post it in a couple of weeks.

Re: What did you get done 5/16/2010 half through May edition

Located all the engine parts i need to get the 6 banger in ol red movin under its own power.my dad found these parts today at a junkyard in a 80's model van with a 6 cylinder in it.i didnt realize gm put 6 bangers in vans in the 80's.whatever as long as the parts work and are in good shape who cares what they came out of.my dad is going to pick them up in the am so sometime this week ol red will be running under its own power then its on to driving it up to flagstaff to complete the V-8 installation.

Well i lied sorta due to a prior engagement on my dad's part that he neglected to mention and the fact it took longer than expected he didnt make it to the junkyard today.he is going tomorrow morning.i hope the parts off this van dont sell in the meantime.i would hate to lose out on the parts we need including some parts we werent expecting to find all in one place.tomorrow will give me the answer.

Dident do much been running like a fool to watch my nephews baseball games and little sister in laws dances all weekend. Did mange to get a nice sun burn but did put a few more miles on the bike. Gotta change the oil in the bike real quick 2 years even on M1 motorcycle oil is still pushing it IMO.

Re: What did you get done 5/16/2010 half through May edition

Got the rod & main bearings changed out on the K20 and installed a high volume oil pump & steel sleeve driveshaft then got the new clutch assembly installed and put the drivetrain back into the truck. Got the transfer case torn apart and resealed then got it bolted back in place.

The crank looked great and the journals mic'd out within specs so all it needed was a freshen up with new bearings. The thing sat so much over its life to only accumulate 72k miles in 32 years that it had a bunch of dry bearing start ups. It was only used in the summer to haul the original owners camper or 5th wheel so it sat a lot for months at a time. It had on average .007" bearing clearance with the wear on them so that explained the 30 psi oil pressure when cold even with heavy weight oil. The bearings were worn smoothly and evenly so it was only dry start damage and not old oil contamination damage. The engine was really clean inside when I resealed it last summer.

Still need to bolt up all the peripherals and modify the headers to fit the truck better then modify the exhaust to line up with the relocated collector location. The headers came off my 67 C-10 so it is a fluke they fit as well as they do. I have to notch all the tubes on the passenger side header and move the collector 1/2" outward to clear the front driveshaft better. Passenger side fits like a glove as is.

I finished installing drop spindles, springs, balljoints, drilled/slotted rotors and pads on my 84 swb. It handles and stops so much better now. I just don't like the noise of the drilled and slotted rotors. They will do for now I guess.

Tried to fix the leak on my passenger side exhaust manifold. With fresh gaskets in there, it leaked even worse than before! I did it with the motor hot, and I have a feeling that might have been a small part of the issue, but for crying out loud, it seals better with NO gaskets at all!
