Re: Ambulance ????????????
Are you actually looking at one that's for sale, or just trying to find info about them before you try and find one to buy? I'm pretty sure there's one in Creswell, but I doubt if it's for sale.

Re: Ambulance ????????????
If you find one it will likely have some nice options... ie bucket seats, tilt, tach etc

Re: Ambulance ????????????
I've read here that you also can find a pair of shoulder belts in an ambulance too.

Re: Ambulance ????????????
Anything modular with a cube box on the back is typically modern. I'm not saying you won't find one it will just be very rare if you do. Back in that time ambulances were car based and to this day when an ambulance goes out it is first car out and the next is second car out, etc. A lot of the time the ambulance was run by the local undertaker and the same configuration of vehicle for both isn't a surprise because of it. Actually Suburban based ambulances were pretty modern and were still built in my recent memory. How do I know. I worked for an ambulalance manufacturer for 9 years and we were still building Suburban's when I was there in the late 80's. Usually they were ordered for the 4 x 4 capability and getting into the tight hard to reach spots or as patient transfer vehicles for less severe types of situations. Vans were very popular and Modulars were the very high end. Now Mods are typical as the box is generally remounted one or two times and the interiors refurbed. A new Mod is very expensive too. Sprinters are making inroads and we might see more vans again.

Re: Ambulance ????????????
^ x2 ^
StingRay beat me to it. I worked for a couple ambulance services back in the mid-60s. We ran M-M Cadillacs & one Int'l. Travelall. Our competitors were pretty much the same with an occasional Olds tossed in the mix. One company used a F@#d Econoline. Even the Suburbans were rare in the metropolitan Phoenix area. I don't ever recall seeing a modular box in service.

Re: Ambulance ????????????
Pretty sure the OP posted about a modular ambulance, and specifically said he didnt want ones based off of a burb. Maybe they don't exist? But he definitely didnt ask you to crap his thread up with random pics you have saved.

Re: Ambulance ????????????
Relax... I enjoyed the pictures, and they reinforce what the others were saying about there not really being any modular ambulances.

Re: Ambulance ????????????
Geez! Do seeing these ambulances bring up some bad memories of something like jumping your bike without a seat or something? Take it easy! Seeing cool pics like those shouldn't put anyone in a bad mood. Bring 'em on Tito!

Re: Ambulance ????????????
I think what you have to remember back then they were "Scoop'em Up Squads" just get there and get them to the hospital. Today they carry actual EMTs and Doctors from advanced life support and need the extra room the Cube vans have.

I like seeing these, gives me some good ideas about how to build a "bug out" survival vehicle for the end of the world.

Re: Ambulance ????????????
Almost every ambulance photo you could ever want at this link. You can search by year, company and so on. Search on Type 1 Mod and you will find quite a few 67-72's. Peter was one of the owners of the company I worked for and has some fantastic old ambulances. My favorite is his 57 Pontiac.
