reverse and 1st but no 2nd and 3rd

76 2wd blazer with pontiac 350 and I think 350 tranny, has the notch in the pan corner. Is there any sort of vaccum line that might have came off that would make not shift into 2nd or 3rd? I've read plenty of posts that say reverse and 1st are the first ones that go out. Any info is appreciated

I would say you lost both of those forward gears and something internal failed so its rebuilt tranny time or rebuild the one you have.Your vacuum modulator line may have popped off the steel line from the engine but that should not caused the sudden loss of 2 forward gears when that happens usually the shifts between gears are delayed not lost completely.

Re: reverse and 1st but no 2nd and 3rd

Would any 350/400 tranny work or is it Pontiac specific?

Re: reverse and 1st but no 2nd and 3rd

Try shifting through the gears manually first. From a stand still, drop it into 1st/low gear. As you accellerate @ normal speed, try shifting into 2nd when the rpm's sound like it's time to shift.

If it shifts into 2nd, repeat the process for 3rd/drive. If it goes through the gears, the vacuum line came off the modulator down @ the transmission. It's common; especially when the rubber line gets fluid soaked & swells.

Re: reverse and 1st but no 2nd and 3rd

Yeah the exact same thing happen to me. I just shifted throught the gears to make sure that the tranny was shifting. Then I looked in the LMC catalog to find the location of the modulator and discovered the vaccuum line had slipped off. I put it back on and have been rolling ever since.

Buick, Oldsmobile & Pontiac share the same bellhousing bolt pattern and are commonly refered to as BOP transmissions. I believe Caddilac also used the same bolt pattern. Chevy has their own bolt pattern.
