C60 truck 292 valve lash specs

I scored an actual "truck" motor and put it in my son's 65 C20. The motor is a 1966 and I believe it has solid lifters. I guessed and set the valves at .015 and it runs fine with some clicking. I cannot tighten the rockers any tighter than zero lash while running, it never recovers like a hyd motor would, it just misses. My question is this; was my guess right, or even close? What is the spec supposed to be on setting the valve lash for this motor?

I'm suspicious of solid lifters in a '66 292. I understand what you're saying about the stumble when you go to "0" lash, but I think I'd pull the forward side cover and visually confirm the lifter type.

Re: C60 truck 292 valve lash specs

All 292's had hyd. lifters. It should have them unless someone has changed them over which is highly unlikely. They probably needed adjustment for a long time & are stuck in the top position. Maybe an additive in the oil & turn them down one at a time & see if it will stop missing after a minute or so. I would pull a cover like the guys said & take a look at them.

Re: C60 truck 292 valve lash specs

yeah, this thing sat in the warehouse for eight years. Turns over freely, I surely wouldn't think the lifters would freeze before the cylinders. I got lotsa books and couldn't ever find a spec on 292 solids. I'm gonna pull the side cover and look. If they are solids, somebody other than Chevrolet did it.

Thanks for all the responses.
