Meet "Kristen".
So today i purchased my first Blazer. I have always loved Square Body Chevrolets. After owning a '82 2wd Chevy Silverado, and selling it due to becoming a father, I've been after a Blazer for a while now. I picked it up just a few hours after it was put up for sale for $1000.
It has power locks [though they aren't working right now.], pwr mirrors, pwr windows, every single light in/on it works except the brake lights [Probably a fuse.] It has a 350 in it, which runs and drives but has a slight ticking sound in it. Sounds like the flywheel maybe? I'm gonna have my Uncle take a look through it before i get it on the road. It has a practically brand new exhaust with Jones?? mufflers, 3in pipes and stainless tips. It's loud... The tires on it are just about completely bald. It came with a set of 33's for it though and a good looking spare. The rims are also a tad corroded. The interior is in awesome shape. The top is as well. The stereo has some gremlins in it where the speakers cut in and out and the front speakers sound like they're either blown or are comming disconnected. However, i plan on redoing the whole stereo system tommorow. The paint is a Black/Silver combo and is in great shape except on the roof and hood there is slight fading. It also has spots of tree sap on it where it has been parked under a tree the past few months. Plans are pretty simple at this point. Clean it. Stereo. Fluid changes. Dress the engine bay a bit. And maybe a set of 20's in the future...not a priorty right now.

Thats what everyone else thought too. He kept getting phone calls about it while i was counting out the bills.
Another cool factor is that it looks alot like my Aunt's which has been in the family for years.

Re: Meet "Kristen".
Very good buy @ $1000, check, check, check the rockers, floors, and tailpan for hidden rust on these... Oh, and where the seatbelts mount to the floors for rust. My initial thoughts on the ticking sound would be a lifter making noise, or an exhaust leak. Enjoy it and post up some updates!

Re: Meet "Kristen".
Is it a 90' or 91'?
Nice buy for $1,000.00 though. Even late model K5's, especially clean 91's are getting near impossible to find now days. So far I've owned 2, 1987's and a 1991. I posted few pictures of my 91 in the 4x4 K5 thread. |

Re: Meet "Kristen".
Well i took it to a gas station nearby today and actually noticed the speedo isn't working, it moves up almost to the numbers when you drive and drops back down to the peg when you shut the truck off, but nothing else.
Also, on the noise the truck makes when it's running. It doesn't do it until it warms up. if you start it when it hasn't been run in a while it sounds normal, but then after a few minutes it starts. any new ideas? other than that it's a very nice truck.

Re: Meet "Kristen".
sounds like an exhaust leak to me....when cold the manifold is flat against the head and doesn't leak....when it gets warm the manifold warps out of shape and hence the leak....i had the same problem on a 454 in an 87 dually...had to remove header....sand on a flat belt sander and replace the gaskets ....after running and getting engine hot be sure to re-torque the manifold bolts

Re: Meet "Kristen".
My '83 caprice had an exhaust leak and it didn't sound like the blazer does, but it wasn't leaking at the manifold either, so i'll be sure to check it out. Thanks for the insight.

Re: Meet "Kristen".
Ok, i haven't really driven it since i got it as i'm waiting for my paycheck to get insurance, but my girl needed a ride to school today so i took a chance.
While idleing in my yard, the tick doesn't happen often and is very quiet. While driving, you can't hear it over the exhaust, but as soon as you slow down for a red light, or entering a drive way, etc. you can hear it plain as day, it gives 2-3 ticks every 5 seconds or so. And if your sitting in park, and hit the gas, you can hear it under the truck more than by the motor, which furthers my belief in the PO's suggestion of the flywheel. It's hard to describe on the internet, i'll see if i can't make a video sometime in the next week when i get insurance.

Re: Meet "Kristen".
Wow, it's been a long time since i've been on here. The ticking sound turned out to be the flexplate, it had 2 loose bolts and was rubbing on the inspection plate. I replaced the fuel filter, pump relay, and pump last week. It runs fantastic, has NO rust underneath of it, everything but the power locks work. I will get some updated pics soon.

Re: Meet "Kristen".
I changed the bald 31's for a set of 33's, painted the rims and bowtie black. I smoked the side markers and tail lights. It's got 2 twelves in the back, and purple street glow neons running along the bed rails. I installed fog lights on the front bumper. Also, i lied in my last post, the speedo still does not work but i try not to let it bother me too much.
