Do I need drop shocks with jeep springs?

Do I need drop shocks with jeep springs (rear)? And Should I buy the fronts too? Will they lower the front or anything or am I better off chopping my current front springs?

What are a set of 4 worth? 97 tj jeep springs

Re: Do I need drop shocks with jeep springs?

Curios about the drop shocks too. Just installed the jeep springs and the shocks don't bottom out. But thats just from me jumping up and down on the back and grinning like the Chesshire Cat that I finally got the darn things put in..........

I am not sure on what the total drop you get with the TJ springs is, but I have heard around 3-4". I would slap some new ones in if going over 3", but if they don't bottom out on you, then I would just roll with them and get shorter ones when they need replacing.

And as far as the front TJ springs I don't think they will be any use to you on old blue. If you want some cheap front drop just pull your coils and cut 1/2 to 1 full coil off and put them back in.

Post some pics when you get them in. And don't forget to center your rear axle after the drop

I'm curious to see how this pans out. I cant tell you how many sets of TJ springs we have thrown out at the shop after installing lift kits!

Re: Do I need drop shocks with jeep springs?

At the very least you will have to use an adjustible panhard bar and if the drop is 4" or more likely a super bar kit. Is it necessary? I would say so, if you want your truck to handle right. Looking at the diameter of the Jeep springs, it looks like you will have a bit more suspention travel, do to how light they are. That will only make the handling carictoristics worse with a stock panhard bar in the stock locations. You should install a shock relocating kit also, witch will help the springyness (spell) that is likely to happen while driving down the road. I have installed 3 super bar kits (including one in my shop now) in as many months here for customers who thought they didn't need one and found out otherwise. WES

Re: Do I need drop shocks with jeep springs?

Notice the angle of the panhard bar and the shocks both. The flatter the trajectory the less effective they are. When you lower you flatten both. WES

Re: Do I need drop shocks with jeep springs?

If your shocks are laid down, then a shock relocation kit is in order, and also 4" lowering shocks. The only measurements that I take are the rear end back plate to frame measurement. They should be the same on each side to be sure your rear end is centered. The angle of the shocks should be as close to 15 degrees and the same with the panhard bar. WES

Re: Do I need drop shocks with jeep springs?

I measured earlier from a part of the frame to the start of the tread on the tire, it was maybe 1\2" or less difference, IF that..I may do some homade stuff (adj. panhard) and play with the shock brackets

Those track arms are ok for drops less than 4". Any more than that I would run a super bar kit. WES
