bed removal

Is it possible for 1 person to remove a short fleetside bed by themselves? What equipment would this require?

Re: bed removal

I did mine by myself with my engine hoist and a couple ratchet straps. I lifted it up with the engine hoist at the back of the truck and just rolled it backwards after I picked it up high enough.

Re: bed removal

I removed my LWB bed by myself, but I dissassembled the bed to do it. I removed the tailgate, disconnected the wiring and then used a impact gun to tighten all of the bolts holding the wheel wells in place until they broke. Once I had the wheel wells out of the way, I removed the bumper and bed mounting bolts so I could slide the bed away from the cab. Once the bed was away from the cab, I broke all the bolts holding the bedfront to the bed sides. I had to drill out the phillips bolts. I then broke all the bolts holding the bedside in place, with a couple of long bolts slipped through holes in strategic places so it wouldn't move until I was ready to pick it up and remove it from the bed floor. Once I removed the bedsides and bedfront, I flipped the floor off the side of the truck. Make sure when you lift any of the bed pieces, that you bend at the knees so you don't strain your back. They're all quite heavy.

Re: bed removal

I pulled and installed mine with an engine hoist, some ratchet straps, and a 4x4 cut just long enough to fit under the bedrails. I have a pic somewhere, and will post it if I can find it. I will say having a friend to help steady the bed while I pulled the truck out from under it was a help. If you have about 3 other friends that can come over, you can pick it up and move it yourself.

Re: bed removal

I got my bed lwb off by myself. I unbolted it from the frame then I put sawhorses at all 4 corners then lifted the front and propped it up with a chunk of 4x4, then slid a 2x12 plank across the sawhorses, then I repeated for the rear and drove out from under it. It was pretty rough, when I put it back on I got my cousin to come give me a hand.

Re: bed removal

I have used my 1950's Jubilee F#rd tractor and a boom pole before, but have decided to buy an engine hoist.

Since I am an old guy and work alone a lot a engine hoist should come in handy.

I have about got my small garage arranged so I can work on my trucks in it.

I removed my LWB by myself with a engine hoist and 4 x 4 under the rails, although it would be much easier if you had some help!

That looks a lot like what I did:

I made a wood frame for transporting it and for keeping it up off the ground while doing the bodywork:

i have something similar but use 2x4's underneath the top of the bedsides to disperse the weight
