Bed Cover, which did you use?
Hey guys,
I see alot of hard bed covers for sale in the newspaper and also CL, I am wondering which one you used and/or the measurements for a Short Wide so I can maybe score one for my truck without paying "new" price. Did you pick one up from a different truck? which one there too

Re: Bed Cover, which did you use?
Can't help with the dimensions since mine's a stepside, but I ran a Gaylord bed cover for over 10 years and loved it. It had no bad habits or defects, made for the biggest trunk in the world, and came with a beautiful shiny black finish.
After I retired we started using the truck for dump runs and the cover became an inconvenience, which gave me an opportunity to install bed rails instead.

Re: Bed Cover, which did you use?
I'm pretty sure that Gaylord's is the only company that makes a hard cover for our trucks. I know for sure that the 88-98 fleetside bed is slightly tapered and more narrow than our trucks.

Re: Bed Cover, which did you use?
Yea, that is where my dad got his for his long bed CC, wow, they are proud of them. I just thought there might be another SWB truck that the cover would fit close enough to look right and function properly that maybe someone was not needing any longer. Oh well.

I also have a Gaylords. I saw it in the paper and jumped on it. SB fleet boxes are roughly 7x7feet IIRC. Havent thrown a tape on it in awhile.

Re: Bed Cover, which did you use?
but how did you know it would fit? was it for a truck like yours? or just a short bed fleetside truck?

Re: Bed Cover, which did you use?
It was specifically for these trucks. PO had a restored 60-66 truck and sold it; buyer didnt want a tonneau cover so he yanked it. I got it 1/2 price and proceeded to cover up the nice paint with primer.

I am going to have them make a canvas cover for me that sits inside the bed rails and flat with the top of the bed. Here is a pic of a canvas one on my elko:
