'72 C10 Crate Motors
I'm fixing up a '72 C10 Cheyenne for a friend of mine, and he wants to put a fuel injected crate motor coupled to a 700R4 in the truck. In my searches I have only found the GM Performance 350 Ram Jet. Are there any other options for less then $5000? And what kind of modifications will there be to fit the new motor and tranny in the truck? Thanks.

if it's "other" than fuel injected...
yearone has a 400+ hp 350 that goes for just under 3 grand! I am currently looking at an "all original" '63 impala and the yearone 350 is definately FIRST thing on my list. |

He could buy a gm crate engine and then buy an aftermarket fuel injection set up from various suppliers such as Holley, Powerjection, Edelbrock, etc. which come with the controller, etc. and get under 5000.

You Should Check The Year One Crate Engine 400hp and there Built Buy The Same Place That Dose GM Crate Motors... Run Just as good as a GM Crate Motor

Might I suggest an LQ4 then? It's the 6.0L truck engine from the 2500's. Basically, an iron block LS2.
You can pick them up cheaper than LS2's, stroke and forge it easier (no worries about cylinder liners), and they'll accept L92/LS3 heads easily. And they're not much heavier than the LS2's. They make very stout, relatively budget friendly motors. |

I'VE PUT TWO OF THE G.M. 230 HORSE CRATE MOTORS IN TWO OF MY TRUCKS. THEY ARE "HECKO IN MEHICO" & THEY ARE DECENT MOTORS. THEY ARE ABOUT $1500. THEY ARE O-K FOR THE MONEY. I'VE BUILT QUITE A FEW 350s & I CAN NOT BUILD ONE THAT CHEAP. I'VE ALWAYS REPLACED THE CAM WITH A SMALL DUAL PATTERN.. SAY ABOUT 468 & 454 LIFT, PERFOMER INTAKE 600 CFM CARB & A GOOD SET OF HEADERS. I DON'T KNOW HOW THEY WOULD BE BOX STOCK, BUT THEY ARE A GOOD 4 BOLT PLATFORM TO START WITH. FOR 1500 YOU GET A 4 BOLT WITH ALL THE MACHINE WORK DONE, ADAQUIT (SP) SET OF HEADS FOR A CRUISER & A THREE YEAR 30000 MILE WARRENTY (I'VE YET TO USE THEIR WARRENTY, BUT IT WOULD BE WORTH SOMETHING TO SOMEBODY THAT IS NOT REAL MECHANICAL).
