How to tell which motor I have
My truck is new to me, and the guy I bought it from told me it had a 350 in it. I did not really care which motor it had in it at the time, I just concerned myself with how it ran (great). Which set of numbers on the motor will tell me what I have? The one on the passenger side front of the motor (stamped in I think)? Or the one from the back of the motor passenger side? Will I be able to see the one on the back without pulling the motor? All I am sure of at the moment is that it is a V8 with a 2 barrel Rochester.
Thanks! |

If it has a small harmonic balencer than it is probably a 327, other than that I have no clue.
If it is the original moter it is not a 350, unless I am mistaken they didn't come out with the 350 untill after '68.

Justin, I think you are correct, that the 350 was not stock in the trucks until 69(?). Wasn't there 307 that year?

There is a large 7-digit number embossed on the back, drivers side of the motor (at the top). Get that number, and go to: www.mortec.com

The number on the passenger side front will usually tell you what the motor is. Just Post the number on the board and someone can tell you what you have. Just because it's in a truck that wasn't available with a 350, Doesn't mean that it's not a 350! I have a 1967' GMC with a 350, that it had in it when I bought it. It should have both Numbers and Letters stamped on the front passenger side. I hope this helps.
