How-To on charging new A/C system

I am about to install a CAA A/C system in my '69 this weekend. I have never owned a vehicle with A/C or messed with A/C before.
I have searched on the site for a How-To on charging a new system and I have googled it, but I didnt turn up anything that I thought gave good instructions.

Does anyone know of a good website or post on how to charge a new A/C system?

I have borrowed a vacuum pump and I have my dad's old A/C tool box that has gauges and various tools he used when working on A/C and refrigeration systems. I could go pay someone to do it, but I feel that defeats the purpose of the learning that comes from doing it myself.

i am in the heating and a/c biz. it would be worth the money to have someone do it. there are several variables to charging an a/c system properly. first is a good vacum with a micron gauge and pull it down into a good vacum according to manufatures specs, you will also need the proper gauges for the refrigerant you are using and you will need to weigh in the charge, once again according to manufactures specs. if you want your a/c to last and run properly a good a/c tech will be your best bet in my opinion. just my 2 cents, so good luck in whatever direction you decide.

I agree with that. We have all the equipment to do it cause I bought it refusing to pay someone else. After spending the the dollars for the equipment and 3 or 4 failed attempts not getting it charged correct. I started doing it where it worked Now I just take it down the street to another shop when we rebuild a vehicle and they do it for us. We stick with Body work. If you decide to do it yourself I can get you all the info you need and fax it to you and some good links for the DIY. Still there is a lot of room for error. Thats why the call them Techs

Besides, it's dangerous. Accidently breathing in freon can kill you.

Sometimes when we try to save a dime we end up spending a dollar. What I am saying there are times when it's best to let someone else do the work for you. Thats just me as I am mechanically challenged. Best of luck. If you do it keep us updated.

I got it evacuated and charged. Easy enough. Held 29"Hg of vacuum for over an hour. Blowing 33-34 degree air in a 88 deg shop and idle. High side pressure was around 170-175 psi.

Glad you got it going! Alot of people are scared of A/C work! And it is best for most people just to let someone else handle it. That is how they make that easy money everyday! hehe
