pressure plate change. 72 jimmy
ok my next problem is the pressure plate is not realeasing. If I have to change this do I have to come in from inside the cab? I notice there is an access cover over the trans and transfer box.
Or is it not worth the hassle and just have the shop do it. ? |

It's pretty easy. The only part I needed help with was when I was putting the tranny/xfercse back in. It was just kind of akward to get it back up there by myself.

I was thinking about pulling the motor instead. Then at least I can pressure wash it.. However Ive never done this model before. last thing I want to deal with is nasty gear oil !

If you've never done it it's easy to pull it but putting it back in usually will require a little help to man the hoist while you or your friend is under the truck lining up the transmission main shaft into the back of the engine.

Pulling the motor, replacing the pressure plate, and re-installing the motor could reasonably be accomplished in a day with 2 guys. Quicker if you have air tools.

ok got the seats pulled out, and the shell over the tranny removed.
Would it be easier to pull the motor and change the clutch assy or pull the tranny and T-box. I power washed the engine so its a bit cleaner. Or do I remove the drive shafts unbolt the the 4sp from the bell housing and move everything aft. then change the clutch assy...? |
