two types of hinges?
Hi all,
I've got a problem with the tailgate of my '79 fleetside pickup. The hinge (or trunnion they are called I believe) on the bedside will not fit the part in the tailgate. It's too large. When I bought the truck the tailgate was not installed, it just laid in the bed, now I probably know why. So I guess there are at least two sizes for this part, how do I know which one to order? |

Re: two types of hinges?
ya i believe 73-80, and 81-87 were different. if you go to a junkyard and pull off the hinges and the latches from whatever style tailgate you have, it should work fine.
dont know where or if you can order these brackets new..

Re: two types of hinges?
If the bottom edge of the gate is round,it's 73/80.
If the outer skin goes down to a pincweld on the bottom then around and up to the inside,it's a 81-up. I think you can change just the trunion hinges from either gate. Mike. |

Re: two types of hinges?
I've made a (crappy) picture of my tailgate, can someone tell if this is a 73-80 or a 81-87 tailgate?
Thanks again! Last edited by Sammie; 06-21-2010 at 03:09 PM. |
