77 or 78 tach?

I purchased a tach cluster several months ago and finally put it in this weekend. I had to do a search to clarify a few things on the tach, I read somewhere that the clusters for 76 and 77 were the same. Looking at the pictures it looked like the cluster I installed was from a 78?? It was pretty much a plug and go set up (except for wiring the tach). Everything works except for the high beams and the temp gauge, the other temp gauge didn't work either (project for another day).

Looking at the picture can you tell what year of tach this is?

Disregard the makeshift bezel, the original was in bad shape so I found one off a 79 and painted it to get me by until interior restoration.

Thx!

I'm to lazy to look up the answer, but I'm pretty sure you can find it here...

Re: 77 or 78 tach?

I believe the tach itself was the same from '77 to '79. It had the double warning lights at the bottom of the face (seat belt warning light/brake warning light). The '76 had a single warning light at the bottom.
The other differences in the cluster as a whole was that up through '77 they had a mechanical oil pressure gauge while the '78/'79 was electric.

P.S. - I kinda like your bezel.

Re: 77 or 78 tach?

Thanks guys for the feedback. I guess it was the 73-87 website that I saw that made me question the year (that is a great web-site for info!). My instrument cluster has the manuel oil pressue guage as well as the yellow and red marking on the tach that was on the 78. Not a big deal either way, just curios. I"m glad it works!

Re: 77 or 78 tach?

It is not from a '77. At least not a early '77 build.

I agree, those multicolored warning areas starting at 4250 rpm would have been 78 or 79 only if I'm not mistaken.
