Power steering box cross references
Does anyone know what year power steering box will fit in my 71? My truck was left outside with no hoses on the box and it is really hard to steer. I am worried the box is shot.

Re: Power steering box cross references
I believe 2 wd trucks up to 82 will interchange without having to change the hose adapters.
Before you condemn the box I would make sure the box is flushed out. Unless the box was outside for a very long time there will not be much water in it. What has worked for me is to purge the box with fluid using an electric pump. Once clean fluid goes through most of the water and contaminants will be flushed out. Once the box is installed bleeding the air out will take some time turning the wheel lock to lock. You may have to let the box sit until the foaming dies out before adding fluid to the reservoir. Once the air is bled out and the reservoir is full your power steering should work. Jim

Re: Power steering box cross references
Thanks, Jim,
Right now I have no motor in the truck. Maybe I can still flush it and the cap off the fittings. What kind of pump do you suggest?
