An upgrade that everyone needs to do.

So after some extensive searching i found insufficient info on how to convert a single headlight through switch to relay conversion......sooo. I decided to wing it via the diagram attached....

Let me just say this.... WOW! Id say its a good 33% more efficient light out put!

I bought some GE $8.xx usd halogens from walmart about 4 months ago and was never fully satisfied until now. They actually cast a slight blue even! (not excessive like some retarded honda) wooooooo hoooo !!!

Yes, it is a huge cluster f*** of wires, but it gets the job done!

ne whooooo... heres some pics!!!

Re: An upgrade that everyone needs to do.

Now I was talking about low beams being at least 33%+++... hi beams.... WOAH. I can blind the hell out of drivers hahahaha, but no really, i can see the entire road.

Problems I ran into: the back of the lights themselves, there are 3 tabs. I figured them to be the same size to be able to inserted inside a standard female connector. I was mistaken. They are waaaay larger, and this messed up my entire plans. SO i simply reused the stock connectors.

I use the one with 2 wires for each terminals on the drivers side (furthest away from the battery)..... i connected both wires, then soldered to a large 10ish g wire and ran to relays..... as for the passenger side, i used the single wire, dual around stock "harness". (closer to battery, singel wire okay due to only a ft of travel)

The + to relays is 0g to fuse, 8g to relays.--0gwire was free, fuse was 12.oo usd backn the day.
Grounds for relays: 8g (same exact leanth for balance)--Free, found at junk yard on ground, tested fine on voltometer.
Relays are 20/30 Bosch/tyco (tyco makes bosch)
Fuse is a 40 glass tube.

Hope this inspires some people!!!!
--------night pics soon to come-----------
Wire all around: 10g??? fuel proof, 1200watt stable---Free, had for years.

Re: An upgrade that everyone needs to do.

I never did it to single lights, but when I swapped 89-91 front end I did the high beams with a relay, and with both lights on, you could see the difference. These were just plain ol lights, but the high beams where almost white, the low beams were yellow compared to the highs. Gonna do the relays on both low/high soon as I get my truck close to work on it.

To run a powered fuse box off the main batt term was out of my price range, all the junkyards i went to wanted 30+ for a fuse box, so i said screw it. It isnt a show truck any ways, she works hard, takes abuse and pays me back so im happy with the out come hahaha

Ive been kickn it out here n Anaheim accually

Re: An upgrade that everyone needs to do.

man you can get a power block from the auto store for like $10. And I hope thats not speaker wire your using for hot wires. It's kinda hard to tell, but the outer coating will heat up and melt. Just giving you warning. The lights look really good though.

And whats the point of a power block when its right next to my battery? Seems like more wire for all the wrong reasons if u ask me.

My way, it is attached to the batery box, close + source and secure. Why would i run a + from batt, to a dist block, just to run the relays to the + off that!? it make no sense.

NO NOT SPEAKER WIRE., its 8g ground cable /w/ copper tabs.

Re: An upgrade that everyone needs to do.

you dont have to run a power block. I was just suggesting it to clean up all the wires a little. But hook it up however it gets the job done.

Good job Spinem. Here's a link to a similar headlight upgrade.
