Lowered truck headers
I have searched and have been reading posts all day and probably more confused then when I started.
I am looking for a set of headers for a lowered 64-66 (5/7 drop), Auto trans column shift, and a SB383. I may also bag it later so want something that doesn't hang to low. Leaning towards a set of Patriot Clippster Headers. Does anyone have a simular setup? What are you running? |

Re: Lowered truck headers
I'm running ram horns right now, was thinking of going to block huggers, they should work for you.

Re: Lowered truck headers
I used Summit 9014(?).....for a 88-98 SB truck. They are shorty's. Had to weld up the O2 sensor hole and they were a little tite, but my engine is in the front position. Others that will work are shorty's for the 80's-90's square bodied Camaros.
My entire exhaust is above the frame with it routed above the trans x-member.

Re: Lowered truck headers
Well the clipsters didn't fit! #1 tube hit the motor perch. Any other recommendations?

Re: Lowered truck headers
Ah ha! I think I found the ones shortbed70 has:
http://www.jegs.com/i/Flowtech/387/11108/10002/-1 The extra circle tabs on the flange clued me in. I think I might give these a try. |

Re: Lowered truck headers
I found that the Hedman shorty swept back style worked well for a lowered application, and provided flexibility with routing configurations to keep the tubing above the bottom of the frame rails. Here's a link to a BBC exhaust thread here that I posted photos of my system.

Re: Lowered truck headers
If you are planning on bagging your truck I would recomend a good pair of short headers so you can run the exhaust outside your frame , otherwise you will be very limited for space. JOMO

Re: Lowered truck headers
Yeah the problem is finding shortys that will work with the CPP perches. Alan's Classic is having the same issue. CPP gave him some part numbers so I am going to try the Headman 69646's and see if they will work.
Fingers crossed! |

Re: Lowered truck headers
Well my truck is bagged and no problems with exhaust. Headers are from summit SUM-G9001.

Re: Lowered truck headers
Finally found the perfect header!! After trying 2 different sets I was about to order my 3rd to try when my latest issue of Custom Classic Trucks arrived... To my surprise they were doing a tech article, putting an exhaust in the "Get Shorty" project. They used a set of Doug's Tri-Y headers and claimed they fit great. I said what they hell I might as well give them a try...
These headers fit almost perfect! Just a little trimming on the pass side rail and they dropped right in. Even better they are true longtubes and don’t hang below the rails but a fraction of an inch. They are a bit pricey at $605 but well worth it for their fit, coating and longtube design. They are Dougs D375Y. Man what a relief to finally have these in and move on to the next part of the build! |

Re: Lowered truck headers
any updates? i have to think into the future for mine, since it's not lowered yet...my dilemma is whether to run exhaust inside or outside the frame...i will most likely use shorty headers....i want the exhaust to exit at an angle just in front of the rear tires...but if you run outside the frame, there's no way for a crossover pipe (H or X)...i could do a crossover if the exhaust is inside the frame rails, but i know it would be a tight fit...any recommendations on whether a crossover is needed? my '66 has a mostly stock 327 w/ 2spd Powerglide
