What kinda oil pressure is your motor running?

Just finished my 406 recently and was wondering how much oil pressure on you running fully warmed up in drive at idle? Just curious. Mine is about 25-30 pounds in gear after i have drove it a while. When i get going down the road cruising it hangs around 55-62.

Do you have a high volume oil pump in your 406? In my 71 nova with a 406 I have about 25 to 30 pounds at idle when warm, and It darn near pegs the needle when at full throttle, My pump is a Melling high volume

No high volume oil pump. But if i get in it pretty good it goes to about 70-75. Just worried about the idle in gear pressure after warm up.

no problem, if i remember right 10 pounds per 1000 rpm is enough per the engineers who designed it a million years ago. If you had more i would be worried, my 406 in my 10 inch tire drag truck would go from 80 pounds to about 10 right about the finish line at the dragstrip. it was a high volume/pressure and was sucking the pan dry, but i was turning it 8300 rpm.

Just got alot of money tied up in it. Guess im worrying for nothing.

My 350 in my caprice has about 10-15psi @ idle(550rpm). I was told don't really worry about idle, worry about it at rpm.

the 350 in my truck is the same way, really low at idle and about 45-50 cruising speed.
