Is this ok??
Anyone advise against running your heater hose from the engine to the radiator? I am bypassing my heater core and did it the cheapest way possible (not that it's right)
Any reason why this isnt a good thing to do? Thanks

Defeats the purpose of your thermostat. Which is going to cause you issues, and as well as redirecting the proper flow of your radiator. Why just not put a plug in the block and not have the hose is the proper way to do it.
How did you get that to mount to the radiator?

Or just run the hose from the pump to the manifold... If it's just a temp thing til you get a new core.

It's mounted to the radiator on the return line nipple from the heater core, or is it the 'hot' line to the heater core? i dont know which is which...
the top hose from the heater core went to the radiator and the bottom hose went to a vacuum thingy and then to the manifold.

and, i am not so sure it messes with the natural flow of the radiator since i am just bypassing the heater core with a shorter length of hose...it makes sense in my brain, but that is why I asked!

Nice to see no one see's the real problem...CHANGE YOUR FUEL LINE!!!
now why not just get a dhut off ..it's nice to shut the core off in the summer too this way you can turn it on an off as needed

Biggest problem with your fuel line is it's a rubber line. Not the best of ideas to have a rubber line running over the engine. Rubber + Heat = Melting

I think he was refering to your fuel filter, glass right? It can break and start a fire.

Old style rubber hose + 10% Ethanol = rotted hose fast. The new injection type hose has a barrier and stands up to heat very well.
The "vacuum thingy" is a water shut off. Hook it up to full vac and it should close. There is a shut off that shut off both lines, I do not know what year it was. I seem to recall it was for a van, but I am not dead sure.

It must be a later model radiator, they were made that way.
As far as the fuel line, Yeah, I would replace the rubber hose with a nicely formed steel line. The glass filter is not that big of a deal as long as it is well supported, meaning steel line to keep it firm. That glass is pretty thick, heat treated stuff, it's fairly tough. But I wouldn't want it banging around loose on a rubber line.

Ok you've been torchered enough....
yea there are alot of different ways to shut them off ...check the thread size..then hit the plumbing dept at any hardware store or even home cheapo the ball valves work well and you can just get a nipple for each end and cut in in the rubber line ( either side) or get something to screw into the block which is better.....you can check any big truck parts places ..ALL big trucks have this shut off LMAO I said Nipple!!! this is the style I like best....and yea I know you can get a vacum one but for the summer this is a solid shut off and it keeps the cab much Kooler

AutoZone sells the shut off valves too (if you can get a clerk that knows what they are and where to find them)

If I can see correctly, his biggest problem is the heater hose is going to his tranny cooler line fitting on the radiator. Wheres the outlet from the tranny cooler going? Hopefully not back to the tranny! Anybody else see this?

My bad, I put my reading glasses on and looked at the pic again. Now I see the tranny line above the hose. Sorry. Did you put that nipple on the radiator yourself? I vote for Kiss, plug it, available at your closest hardware store. Also, visit NAPA and bend up some metal fuel hose and use a metal filter. Not hard to do. Good luck. Whats the rest of the truck look like.

Thanks for the responses guys... it hasnt been torture, yet!
couple questions: Fuel line. what size metal line should I use, and is there a pre-bent part made to run from the pump to the carb? or should i get braided stainless? Edelbrock carb 1406. Heater port in the manifold. i decided to cut off the heat permanently. what size plug would I need? Edelbrock performer intake. Thanks guys

If you use a plug, you will still have to deal with the radiator end of the hose. Get a shutoff valve instead and leave the hose connected.

When changing the fuel line, do I have to drain the fuel since the pump is lower than the tank? dont want to find out the hard way!
I plugged the heater port in the manifold with a brass 1/2" NPT fitting and used a 3/4" PVC plug and 4 inches of old heater hose to cap the port in the radiator. This should keep me cool until I can fix the climate controls.

No you dont have to drain the fuel, you'll get a little spillage out of the line but other than that you'll be ok.

i my experience most times the gas will flow when you remove the line from the pump due to siphon effect// the short rubber connecting hose from the frame rail to the inlet of the pump should b clamped shut
