step side fender
my short bed stepside has the usual spare tire cut in the drivers side rear fender. I'd like to eliminate this and am wondering if someone makes a patch panel or if people are using fenders off a long bed to rectify this. Thanks

Re: step side fender
Ive never seen a patch for that but you can find a fender without the cutout. I got lucky when I found mine at a local swap meet, 20 years ago.

Re: step side fender
My 64 swb step side came without the cut-out from the factory, so someone must make replacements without the cut-out.

Re: step side fender
The non-cut-out fenders aren't scarce at all. I believe the box-side mount may have been an option and the standard mount was under the bed. From time to time I see WTB ads for the cut-outs from people moving their fuel tanks out of the cab. If you keep an eye on the parts ads, you might be able to work out a trade. Don't forget to check the TF fenders too.

Re: step side fender
Believe it or not the spare tire cutout on my 63 is the first thing most people complement on when they see it. They think its something ive done to customize my truck and ask why i havent done it to the right side fender. When i explain to them what it is they can't believe a vehicle actually came from the factory with a spare mounted on the outside of the vehicle. Did they make a right side rear fender with the spare cutout? Seems like ive seen a few trucks with spares mounted on both sides.

Not a factory option. Having spares on both side pretty much eliminates the usefullness of the steps. |
