LS swappers, post up your pics!!
Let's get us an epic LS swap pic thread going here! It's already become obvious that there are dozens.... MANY dozens of LS based swaps on the forum. Being able to see each others swaps also gives the next person taking on the task some great ideas.
I'll start off with a few of Fred. 85 GMC, 2006 5.3/4L60E with 3.42's.

Glock your Fred thread inspired me!
This is my 06 4.8 4l60e combo in my 65 Chevy C10. I'm running 3.73 12 bolt rear end. They are the Doug Thorley THY-324Y-C and are originally for 67-72 ls conversion trucks but I haven't had any issues on my 65 with them. I got them here: http://www.dougthorley.com/cartgenie...p?pid=10&cid=2 but I used a promo code which knocked like $75 or $100 off. I found the promo code on this website

Here is mine. 2005 LS2 from an SSR with T56 6 speed. Off the road for 10 months to make the swap. Picture taken after a little cruise tonight. Tweaking the tune and a punch list of other little things to fix.

Re: LS swappers, post up your pics!!
2002 4.8/4l60e Not a show job, but it runs like a new truck. I put the miles on mine getting parts for my other projects. 2000 miles so far. Pictures are from the day I took my first test drive to the dealer to do the crankshaft variation learn. Also threw in a pic of the tired 327 that was replaced.

What A cool forum ,all your swaps look great, each has its own unique taste. Thanks Glock,It's a vintage air setup. It went on perfect .The "truss" that goes across the middle is really nice.I have edelbrocks 2 piece timing cover so between the truss, cover & not having to remove the intake ,cam swaps will be a breeze. It came w/ a really sweet ATI balancer also, 2 drawbacks though, the anodizing on the crank & waterpump pullies is not the same color black it's like hard anodized brown & it seems to be lightening in color from just sitting.I called VA & they sent me new pullies out even without recieving the original ones first but the new set is doing the same thing.I have to get some other parts ano'd so I'm just gonna send them w/ that batch.
Mac it was a complete kit incl. the compressor. It went on really nice just a couple of problems w/ it.If you look close the anodizing on the wtr. pump& crank pulleys changed color I've sent them back once & they sent me out a new set even before they got the old set back.Great service but the new set has faded too.I have to send some other stuff to get anod. so I figured I would throw them in w/ the rest of the stuff. The other problem is "& this is a little knit picky" The idler pulley is plastic & the screw for the idler cover is to short it only engages a couple of threads. Both problems are easily correctable but for what this stuff costs I expect it to wipe my behind too!All in all its the best deal going for this type of kit. just my 2 Last edited by usmcchevy; 06-21-2011 at 09:58 AM. |

Re: LS swappers, post up your pics!!
I made some brackets to mount the coil packs to the frame rail.
for each set of 4, I used 2 pieces of 1/4" all thread and a bunch of nuts to space them out appropriately. Then I took some pieces of scrap sheet metal and made a couple of L brackets and bolted those to the all thread and the frame. The passenger side is back near where the cab frame and truck frame meet. On the drivers side they're kinda under the alternator. I just used some moroso 8mm spark plug wires (with straight spark plug boots) and some Taylor LT1 optispark boots and made up the wires myself. I had to use a 90 degree boot for the #3 spark plug with the way the angles of the spark plug and header tube are, this was the only way to avoid the two touching. Oh, I also used one breather and a PCV valve on them too. I originally used 2 breathers, but it was leaking a very small amount of oil out of one of the breathers, dripping on the valve cover and header and then having that burnt oil smell I didn't want to have. I haven't noticed any leaking oil with the PCV valve. |

Re: LS swappers, post up your pics!!
Here's mine in the beginning stages of being mounted in a 1941 GMC on an S10 frame. It's a lot more complicated than I thought it would be...I already had a SBC mounted, but stupidly decided to go LSx.
My extremely complex, overdone mounting brackets are being fabricated this week, hopefully they work out. Now I have to find a smaller oil pan, have headers made (wasn't planning on that!) and do the wiring. Also still need a 4l60e. Last edited by shaunatk; 08-16-2010 at 10:39 AM. |

Re: LS swappers, post up your pics!!
Mine, 68 C20 with 2005 5.3 and 4l60e. Doug Thorley try y's, homemade engine mount adapter plates based on templates from LS1tech.com. Used 6 cyl towers to move engine back, 68 V8 motor mounts and moved tranny crossmember forward little bit.
Doing body work now. Just finished welding in new passenger inner and outer rockers, cab corner, a pilar and kick panel, fender support. That was fun. |
