Rear 2" drop question

I would like to level the stance out on my 72 C10 until I have the funding to do a full 3/5 or 4/6 with rims next year.

If I buy a set of 2" drop springs plus new retainers and bolts will that be all i need to level this stance out from stock ride height?

A cheaper way to do this would be to use a block in the rear. If you know someone that can cut out the blocks, and drill the, it's a piece of cake from there; probably less than $100.

You can run 1" and if that's not enough up it another inch to a 2".

2X2 tuben thick wall, cut 7" long drill 2 5/8 holes go to AutoZone and get the Ubolts for 19.99 and there you go.
Cut 1 complete round out of the bottom of the front springs!
How cheap can it get..............

I got my set for around $40. Machine shop 2 inch square tubing $20, and as for the the u bolts, I went to a local spring shop. They custom made/bent them while i waited, $22. With nuts and washers.

Guys, thanks for the feedback (and the curve ball lol). Now i need to figure out this block method if i decide to go that route.

I thought it be as easy as buying $85 in springs and plug and play.

It can be that easy but there's a cheaper way (blocks) to get the same drop and not end up buying double the springs to bring your truck down. Plus... you can still use your blocks depending on how low you want to go with your new drop springs (future purchase).

Find a place that does lifts and see if they have any jeep springs or look on CL for some. Probably find some for cheap or maybe even free. They will give you a 4 inch drop in the back. Then pull the front springs and cut a single coil out like BIG ORANGE said. That would (could) put you at about a 2/2.5-4 for virtually nothing but your time.

Im runnin jeep springs but am on the verge of needing adj. tracbar (almost perfect but still a lil off) I need to

A Make one

B buy one

C put stock springs back in

I plan on cutting front springs too, will i need to get it realigned? (that much difference or what)

Jeep Wrangler springs gave me maybe 1/4" drop in the rear....nowhere near the 4" I see claims of on here. Before anyone asks, yes they were from a 2002 Wrangler TJ. They are much thinner gauge than the stock coils, but they did not drop the rear, even with two people standing in the bed. I have 2" block in my other truck and it sits lower than my truck w/ the Jeep springs. Cutting a single coil in your front springs WILL drop the front about 2", that worked perfectly for me.

My TJ springs gave me, i dunno right off hand but at least 3-4"

thats the best pics ive got

all stock just TJ springs, I know my shocks need to be lowered shocks an adj tracbar, and shock relocators...

Wow...they did lower your truck, mine looks NOTHING like that, in fact it still looks the same, just like your first picture. I do have a SWB but I did not think the lower weight would make that much of a difference.

Are they new springs ledzepp? Mine are used, but not heated or anything, is the bed on?

Only thing I dont like about em is I use my truck as a truck but like the lowered look..I cant haul anything with these, may do a simple bag on the rear oneday..

Used, 03 Wrangler, bed is on (even had two people standing in it). I can get it about 6" lower if I bounce the bed up and down But sitting stationary, no drop.

LOL, they won't settle 4". As soon as I get the chance, they are going in the trash and I am off to CPP to get real ones made for the truck.

Thanks for everyone's feedback. Let me ask this another way.

Assuming to have $150 budgeted for this 2" rear drop project. Would everyone still be in favor of the block as opposed to just buying and installing the 2" drop springs?

My ignorance level is high hence why i am asking.

It seems the block method is a slightly cheaper way of doing what the spring swap will do. Or, is there more to is that than? ride quality, safety, ect

I'd go with the blocks. Plus, it'll keep the origional geometry in the rear. You can't go wrong.

what is the benefit of blocks versus 2" drop springs? (not concerned about cost)

and to a new 67-72 owner with limited knowledge of all the mechanic of them, the block process is detached the u bolts from the trailing arm/axle and installing the blocked and new u bolts???

the 2" drop springs would involve removing the old and replacing wiht the new?

sorry for all the questions, just not quite following it all yet.
