Brake Booster

I want to mount my Brake booster on the firewall of my truck. What do you guys think?

I was thinking about doing this too but at the same time having it hidden away would help keep the firewall clean and would look nice

Compromise. Keep the booster and master cylinder on the frame and run a remote reservoir on the firewall for ease of servicing.

I guess it's just depends on your preference, but I'm keeping mine under the floor to keep the firewall less cluttered. The remote reservoir sounds like a good compromise though.

If I were going for a show truck I would have done the under floor for a clean firewall. (This goes for the battery tray, too.) I just want a really nice driver so I opted for functionality. By keeping the booster and battery on the firewall it will be easier to service. I won't have to crawl under or pull up carpet to check fluid level or see the battery terminals are corroded, or jump start, etc. Decide what you want for your truck and what works for you.

At No Limit we have both types. Firwall mount kits with 7' Dual diaphram boosters, or 8" dual. Two styles of chassis mounts avail, one kit to re-use the stock pedal, and a kit that comes with a new pedal. Have any of you guys used a camaro brake pedal/master cylinder/booster? I have a rebuilt '79 camaro brake pedal/master cylinder/booster. i got it out of the camaro that I got my sub frame out of. I understand that it is neccessary to remove the e brake handle to do this. I have also read that you can use a 73-87 e-brake pedal and that it will bolt right up to the back side of the hood hinge. Any one try this?

AHHHHH..... so after looking at a few pics of them mounted on the firewall I decided to put it on the frame. I thought it would look nice but I guess not I guess the engine conparment is just too small for it.

Does anyone know if the Brothers pre-bent lines will connect to a ford 8.8 rearend with discs

I got the adapter bracket, master, booster, proportioning valve, and residual valves from No Limit. Still in the install process though. I'm 4 wheel disc too.

I'm running a hydroboost out of an 05 chevy truck. I bent all my own brake lines. It isn't that bad if you take your time.

I used the stock pedel, fabbed my own bracket and used an 8" hot rod type booster with 74 truck MC and proportioning valve. Note that I found from experience that bleeding the brakes with the expansion coils vertical is almost impossible because of air pockets, in the final install they are horizontal.

Orrie, this set up will work fine, but you may want to extend the lower pedal. The stock ratio is appx. 8.5 - 1. this is good for a manual brake, but will feel too soft with the booster. By extending the the linkage rod mount hole down about an inch, you will change the ratio to appx. 5.5 - 1. You can fab up a bolt on link to do this. (we have them, $12) This will give you a lot more pedal feel, and reduce the amount of pedal travel needed. Many times, I cut 2" off of the upper pedal, just below the pedal head, and weld it back together, it makes driving much more comfortable.

Rob - thanks for the insight. If you look closely you will see that I had a manual MC mounted before, drove it for almost 15 years daily with no problems and developed very good left leg muscles. That is an early photo, I have had it all set up with the cab set and it seemed to work ok as is, mc works fine before pedel gets close to the floor. I haven't tried it with the engine running. I think I'll change the ratio like you said, easy to do with it still open. I'll wait on the other and see if it bothers me with the new seats and column. I really appreciate you pointing out that ratio, with the power booster I will not need as much leverage. I assume I will have to look at the horizontal arm adjustment for pedal postion?

You can, but your best bet is to adjust the linkage to set the lower pedal arm right up to the toeboard (keep the return spring and rubber bump pad), then, when it's all bled and tested, shorten the upper padel arm to set the pad to your liking. keep driving!!!!

Who sells frame mounted MC brake booster kits? Who has used the kit from Brothers trucks. What about their brake lines do they hook easily?

Aren't the stock pedal arms cast iron???

The originals are stamped steel, not cast.

Good to know....I was not sure, will make for easier welding being stamped steel.

I bought mine at Tucker's but the kit came from CPP. It fit good and was easy to install with the cab on. I used the style that kept the stock pedal and arm. On my 57 the brake arm is cast steel. I used the NAPA multi-layer brake lines and made my own. Cheaper and not difficult at all.

Well you've got no limit which has been mentioned acouple fo times. CPP also has kits. Mikes bump and grind who is on this board has a kit which I used.
