Dana 44 oil seal replacement
It appears that I have one side of my front axle leaking. From what I can figure I will need to replace the seals in the middle of the axle. What else should I consider replacing while I have it all apart?
I don't really 4x4 much, just put it on in the winter from time to time and the Blazer is pretty original, I doubt that the 4x4 was used much before I got it.

I would take a good look at the bearing inside the spindle too. There is no way to service them w/o disassembly, so they get ignored.

This would be the time to regear if you have been considering it.

Re: Dana 44 oil seal replacement
You can get the seals from a local parts store. Its the same PN for all 1/2t, D-44 front axles. Chicago Rawhide (CR) makes them and be aware that the crosses in your outer axles will have to be taken to the parts store and matched up. Sometime in '72, GM started putting larger crosses in the outer axles and the only sure way to know is remove and take with you. Hope this helps.
Oh yeah, don't jack the slingers up, they are to find these days.
