Sounds like one or more of the friction plates is burned up. First chance you get, pull the pan and filter and look for little pieces of what looks like burnt paper.
Another check: smell the fluid on the dipstick. If it smells like paint thinner, the fluid is shot. If there is none of that then maybe the torque converter is somehow not getting enough fluid... The 4L80E in my '93 started doing that...$2600 later, it is better than new with custom fluid ports for cooling and a solid shift-kit. Your tranny shouldn't cost half of that for a complete rebuild.

that kinda sounds like what mine is doing, but mine actually goes in to nuetral when i'm at a stop light. The shifter(on the column) doesn't actually move, but if i wiggle it just a bit, it goes back into drive?? It seems to do it only before the engine is nice and warm
anyone have any ideas on that one?? it's a th350 and was rebuilt about 8k miles ago(about a yr and an half) |

Make sure you have a bottle of ATF around. Dip your finger in it and check it against the dip stick reading. If the fluid on the dip stick is darker than what's in the bottle then your clutch packs are buring up. If your fluid is even got a brown-ish color then it's time to rebuild the transmission.
